EU+US Mage Gearing

Hello,

As my first vet i want to make a Mage (I want to stay away from arcane and try to play frost as much as possible).
Please could you recommend which race to start, and key quest items to focus on.

Appreciate any advice. This bracket is new to me!

Goblin's a good start for horde, high int plus 1% bonus haste and an escape mechanic + execute ability (really funny to land killing blows with missile)
