The Most Important Twink of 2019 (no memes)

Before I reveal who it is I want to get at the deeper meaning of this post. This isn’t even really about WHO the best twink is, it’s more so WHY I chose them and what it should mean to everyone else. This person isn’t the best at the game by any means. They don’t do the most for the community. Some of you might not even know him at all.

we must first talk about the current state of twinks and how this player stands out in the context of it. More specifically, let’s look at the twink cup.

There are several teams entering the twink cup of varying skill levels. Getting more granular, there are players of varying skill level in each of those teams. All of that aside, despite having a mixed history of winning and losing in the past, there is one team name that stands out to many players:

Gurubashi Surf Club.

The average player quality on GSC is extremely high. There are multiple players who have achieved rank 1 at max level at some point in time, or at least very high rating. Their ability to strategize, adapt, communicate, synchronize and execute as individuals and as a team is at a level that the vast majority of twinks have yet to approach.

Why is that? Are they just way smarter than everyone else? Maybe some of them are, maybe some of them aren’t. But there is one thing that many of them share:

Lots. And lots. Of games. Of Warsong Gulch. Thousands of hours.

So that’s it. If you haven’t played as many games of WSG as the members of GSC then according to the laws of time, you will physically never be able to become as good as them as long as they continue to play. You are quite literally wasting your time.

...Or at least that’s what the assumption was, until this guy happened:

Vetluvsheep, otherwise known as Vet.

Vet didn’t really take 19s seriously until Legion, and yet, he is on GSC. In other words, in the time of one and a half expansions, he exhibited enough quality as a player to join a team full of veteran bracket masters that have been tryharding and spamming games for much longer than him. He isn’t as good as any of them, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is that he is arguably the only person closing the impossible time gap. Or at the very least, he is improving faster and more significantly than basically anyone else right now.

That is why Vet is the most important twink right now IMO.

But wait, like...what the fuck is Vet ACTUALLY doing? How did this random noob from Legion get to this point?

Well, it’s less about that and more about the things he’s NOT doing. Things that so many of you do, and some things that I myself am guilty of at times.

1. He doesn’t argue when people flame him for mistakes
2. He doesn’t ask what others should have done instead of himself
3. He doesn’t have his head so far up his ass that he is incapable of considering a new idea or perspective
4. He doesn’t forget the things he learns in a game
5. He doesn’t say he gets something and then repeat the same mistake over and over
6. He doesn’t think he knows more than everyone else
7. He doesn’t stop thinking about how to improve, always studying games and plays
8. He doesn’t let what other people say get in the way of his development as a player
9. He doesn’t disobey calls from the leader
10. He doesn’t give up, doesn’t stop caring and always wants to play

Vet is not superhuman. He’s not an unseen prophetic child from beyond. But most importantly, he’s not falling into the traps that many of us have fallen into. If you’re feeling stuck, like you or your team aren’t getting the results you want, that is okay. But you have to be willing to change. You have to be humble. You don’t have to be Vet, but you have to exhibit some of his qualities.

Anyways, thought this would make an interesting case study. Good luck twinkers.

That’ll be 600k Vet btw.

I want to flame this post really bad. Since it's well written and just giving general advice I'll just quietly walk by.

whatever, @Vet is a dope, solid player. he plays a billion classes, he's relatively good at each one and while he's playing and getting better himself, he's always in game giving other players tips and guidance as well. plus he's always been cool and nice to me.
