Buff Rules and Limitations

Does anyone know the buff rules and limitations in vanilla wow?

Is there a maximum number of buffs you can have?

Are there any buffs you can't gain? For example can a level 60 buff you with say Blessing of Light whose rank 1 is learned at level 40?

Are there any other restrictions on buffs that are noteworthy? I'm aware some buffs trigger a debuff that prevents reapplication for a short time, such as bandages.

Is that purple ???

I record the Blues talking about debuff limitation: at the launch of Classic they will use the limit from one of later vanilla patches, making the actual number of debuff higher than that of the original launch (might be 16, I don't remember).

No ideia on buff restrictions.

in bg's there are no buff restrictions you can enter a wsg with full world buffs and complete with raid consumes. no buffs get removed upon entering a bg or leaving them. this means you can grab berserking buff and leave a bg and you will still have it

Dunno bout vanilla since it was pretty much over when I started but if ur ally beware of shamans. Purge works on pretty much everything.

Thank you all for your responses : ) It sounds like there are no known buff restrictions. Although you obviously can't drink flasks that are higher level than you, you should be able to get any buff a higher level character chooses to cast on a level 19.

nah they should still scale down
like you cant just throw a r2 prayer of fortitude onto a lvl 19 or a lvl 1 and call it a day

but you can still apply slightly higher lvl buffs than whats available to say a "regular lvl 19"

now i heard that you could apply Greater Blessing Of Kings(yes the lvl 58 or whatever one that lasts 15 minutes) onto a low lvl pally(only pally) if you converted to raid and then buffed. But thats a rumor and I never played back then so i have no idea if its true

Ok, technically I wasn't buffing characters in Classic. But I was in BC, and then you could absolutely receive top level buffs from nearly anyone. That means Power Word: Fortitude, Blessing of Kings, Blessing of Might, Mark of the Wild, ect. And yes they give huge stat buffs. I don't think buff scaling was added until Cata or MoP.

Some buffs like Soul Stone did require the high level person to remain in the same party as you. (At least until you entered the battleground, can't remember if they needed to remain the whole time.) (It might work the same way for Prayer like party buffs as well.) What I don't know is if we can gain buffs where the lowest level version is learned or obtained at level 30+.

[doublepost=1555352414,1555352224][/doublepost]Back in the day I used to frequently run to the trade district and ask random players for buffs while waiting in queue ( :

Priests have dispel as well. It sounds like you won't see other player's buffs unless you are lucky and a mage casts detect magic on them, but you can dispel / purge until satisfied : )

You're right. Though there are some addons on current private servers that can track buffs/debuffs from the combat log. Meaning if you're in target/combat log range from your enemy, that addon will be able to track the enemy's buffs. I have no idea if the modern API allows addons like these though.

Very interesting I expect it is possible! Although it might violate the TOS, so very slight risk.

Although that clearly won't be able to show them buffs received before entering the BG : )
