EU+US Heads up March 21-24, free play weekend...

So much information all around. Can someone make it simple please?
I don't want to create another topic for this.

Question 1:
-Pure F2P (not linked) / Linked / Vet = Safe to login?

@Crystalpall says no as i understand

Question 2: (I'm not sure if we can lock xp as f2p so this can be a stupid question.)
-If we lock xp gain before free weekend(f2p-Vet), Can we log in safe?

Question 3:
-Cool things to do if we can log in.

Have a good day!
It's worth trying if you want to try it on a toon you do not mind taking the risk with.

I personally believe Pure F2P is likely to be 100% uneffected by this, but it's your choice if you take that risk. Myself, I'll just log on to a non level 20, and see if I can do a pet battle / have more than 10g. From there, we'll know definitively.

Here goes a GM answer ! ;)

Pure-F2P rejoice! Vets beware!

if this is the same as what happened last year the game time wont apply to any actual f2ps anyways, correct?

you vets better watch out but other than that f2ps will probably stay unaffected, no?

Leave it to Brihan to ruin the fun of "wild speculation" by actually asking blizzard. :p
I don't know why for a second anyone thought it would apply to pure f2ps lmao

If I decide to make my FTPs on a WOW2 account instead of my primary account, could I avoid these potential scares?
(Excuse me if this is answered elsewhere - not interested in browsing the forums right now)

Tyvm for the warning, and to Brihan for posting the interesting GM reply.

In my recent experience of going F2P -> vet, I would say the following to vets:
1. Don't lock XP before the weekend because you may not be able to PvP nor undo it after the weekend is over- Slahtz is a bit bugged that way.
2. If it works the same way it worked over January when i bought a month of gametime, the accrued XP is applied on login of each specific character. Logged-in characters (with accrued XP) insta-levelled to 30. Un-logged-in characters stayed at 20.

Being a vet kinda sucks. I wish I'd stayed pure. I can't even cook savoury deviate delight anymore :<
=goblin voice: Oh, boohoohoo! Wah wah!=

Best way to avoid any banked XP shenanigans is starting with a paid account. Just pick up a month of gametime, gear up your 20s with locked XP and then turn their XP on before your gametime runs out. Once the account has been subbed, characters will never gain banked XP again.

Question 3:

F2p druids can't afford Nature's Beacon. So, if you have an inactive "vet" account, have a vet druid buy Nature's Beacon from Lorelae Wintersong (Moonglade's Nighthaven 48.6 40.2). For that matter, make a list of any account-wide items that are easily purchased and any level 20 can use but are above to 10G price limit. Use your welcome back weekend to fund loading up on these items so your f2p will have access to them after the welcome back weekend is over.

Another cool thing to do is roll up new toons on your vet account on various servers and get friends to add them to their guild. Once the welcome back weekend is over your inactive vet account will still be allowed to add toons to any guild you already have a presence in. Even if you largely only use the fp2 account, you'll be able to switch to the vet account to log in just to join guild chat from time to time.

If any of your lapsed toons have some gold, transfer a bit to your lowbie toons before the free weekend is over. Even though there is a 10G limit when an account is inactive, that just means you'll not be able to increase the gold level, but you'll still have that gold to spend.

Try and go to places or do things your f2p/vet toons couldnt. Maybe try out the DK starter experience. You'll not be able to use it again after the free weekend is over, but you'll have seen Ebon Hold.

So just logging into a vet without doing anything shouldnt cause me to level to skull lvl right...?

Good.

Now I can worry about how next level squish will effect f2p with banked ex and the doom of 20s it brings instead.

Send help.

It will

Or it won’t I really don’t know which is which now... personally I wouldnt risk it on any account. It’s just 3 days.
It's been tested for each scenario now.

Pure F2P accounts will have nothing happen at all. Zip. Nada. You can view your account subscriptions (or lack there of) on your Battle.net, and it will show trial and an option to add game time. Vets will show that they have 6 days of play time on such.

If you disabled your XP prior to the event start, you can log in and be fine. If not, and you are a vet...Just wait it out.

This was great. Thank you very much. /respect

I logged into my vet druid that has xp on and didnt gain a single XP point and i would have, in theory, more than a few levels of banked XP.

I think vets are safe so long as you arent stupid
