Jamesb's 19 Vanilla Gearing Guide

This is gorgeous and must have taken you some time.

Forgive me for not remembering how twinking works in classic, i know this is a sin.

How do you get all the bop gear without leveling past 19? Even if you started farming it early wouldnt you get a lot of xp being ran through wailing caverns and such?

Higher level clears the dungeon before you enter. You run in and die to the boss. Higher level kills boss.

0xp

oh also noticed you have Seal of Sylvanas listed under paladin. pally is ally only in vanilla blah blah

Purj is essentially correct there are ways to avoid most all XP not from completing quests and exploration. It also took a Lot more XP to level up. Generally for dungeons like WC I just ran inside and waited by a certain spot of the wall near the entrance that was geographically close to the final boss, the high level character then ran by all the unimportant mobs (and when he made the jump they all lost aggro) and killed just the final boss and looked at the loot, at which point with group loot on the twink was able to roll need against the high level who passes and walk out with exactly 1 boss worth of XP. For other dungeons like deadlines you just walk in, wait till the high level cleared everything up to first boss (which was too far away to get xp or loot), move up, repeat, and finally be in range for final boss to get loot. Dying if needed to reduce even the 1 mob XP was doable but rarely worth any trouble.

You can do your dungeon runs in between quests. However, all BoP gear is obtainable at 19 because you can die near the boss, have someone running you kill them, and since you’re dead you will gain zero xp. Then they loot and you can roll if you have not released spirit.

Ally leather boots - draftsman boots
Not sure how they compare to feet of the lynx stats back during vanilla

Edit: wowhead has these listed as str/stam.. I could have swore they were agi/stam. I picked these up on my AP warr back during vanilla/bc and used them tho so I guess theres gotta be some sort of use for it
They are 5/5 strength and stamina.

Great!
For Hunters, if it will ever exist again.

FYI, the Furbolg Medicine Pouch on-use ability couldn't be used by low level toons wack in Vanilla-TBC-WotLK. Not sure if it worked on private servers as I never played on them, but I would assume that Classic will mimic the old live game rather than private servers.

Without the on use, the pouch simply isn't useful in the 19 bracket because there isn't a good 1-hander to pair with it. You get better stats from a staff.

The on use effect does require level 50. But 10 Stamina is really good for any weapon slot. So anyone who can't use a shield and doesn't need the damage, even temporarily like while running a flag can benefit from the pouch as a swap in item.

Reading this has me so anxious to play classic as soon as it comes out.

The OP had mentioned that Shaman were good for "pouch purges" in one of his replies. I assumed he was talking about the HoT from the pouch.

I still think Shamans are good. They are the perfect priest counter as Fort, Renew, and PW:S can all be purged, Heal can be shocked, and Psychic Scream can be tremored. I prefer gearing them like an Elemental Shaman (Spell Damage/Healing and Fire Spell Damage where possible), but I don't play them like a caster. Flametongue on a fast dagger scales pretty well and Flame Shock is awesome when you don't need to interrupt.

With Spell Damage/Healing enchants, you also increase your heals a bit. Healing Wave is a bit slow, but you can also get a nice instant heal out of the Minor Recombobulator. It can be used on anyone, including yourself, for the health and mana restore. The heal scales with Healing enchants to the point where, in TBC, I would get 450 - 500 heals with around 700 on a crit.

That all makes sense! I appreciate your contributions! Also I had no idea the Recombobulator scaled with healing power! : )

Item Level restrictions did not exist during vanilla. Even in BC only enchantments had item level restrictions. Other enhancement items just needed to be applied while the item was in your inventory, but it was a non-binding process. So that meant you could attach things like Nethercleft Leg Armor (BC) or scopes to BOE items. Thankfully Little Tim's Peashooter is amazing : )

Some exceptions apply. I believe it is known that the ZG enchants do cause the item in question to bind. Also with the Naxx enchants I've heard they will bind BOE items, but not white items. So you can apply them to some white shoulders and send them over to a twink once Naxx is out and if you can find someone who will sell or give you a one.

Hey Jamesb,

I'm curious if you'd want to collaborate and put this information onto a website? I am a web developer and if we could get this data formatted into a particular way, I should be able to host it and nicely display it online.
