EU+US Lvl 20 vs 29?

I just made some level 20 characters to do BG's when my sub expires. In BG's it seems like level 29's (il33) are wrecking me. Do level 29's (il33) have way more damage in a BG's than a level 20 with item level 24?

They will do more damage and heals, but u will still be in the right ballpark with a Vet. Unfortunately this patch has put the F2P’s in a lower league, but Vets can still hit with the big boys ;)

vets can still kick it w/ 29s

f2ps aren't anywhere near as viable as they were in legion but in todays BGs they are still in a decent spot if you play the right spec. I don't think anyone should stray away from playing a f2p because they're too "weak."

back on topic though, 29s are obviously going to be better, and generally most 29s are absolute shitters and just buy the world in potions and buffs (pot junkies.) Veterans still hold their ground quite well. I do play a fotm class as my main veteran, but I am able to kill 29s 1v1 a good amount of the time. Once you're fully geared you wont be too far behind 29s at all, in fact, if were talking just normal 29s that don't go above and beyond with consumables because they're not good enough to play otherwise then you'll be just on par with most 29s.

As folks have stated, 20 vets are more than capable. Fully enchanted and geared, they're not but a couple stat points behind 29s and while you lack a few abilities that 29s have, for most classes its not game breaking.

Generally speaking, healers are gonna suffer the least being 20 instead of 29 and you'll see the biggest difference in DPS classes, some of which are missing crucial abilities.

Just to give you an idea, I play a 20 vet resto druid and its really not hard to get myself both in top 3 damage and heals. Granted, druid is exceptionally strong right now (ESPECIALLY as solo que/pug stomper) but the level gap isnt a huge disadvantage. I think I have like a 70% overall win rate? Something like that? And Im not a particularly good player.

That said, some 20s are gonna be rough without their 29 talents. 20 Shadow priests, for instance, arent terrible but they are REALLY far behind 29 shadow priests. Things like dispersion, shadow mend, vampiric touch, etc are pretty important and you dont get them at 20. Same with say, warriors. Theyre monstrous DPS machines at 20 but they lack leap and pummel that 29s have, making them a rough choice if you're queing without a healer. Other DPS classes (like, say hunters) really shine at 20. So do a little digging and find a class that will be viable.

How are mages at 20 compared to other dps?

Arcane> brainless 1 button top dps
Fire > a great choice if you wanna stand out a little in terms of playstyle
Frost> slightly more intelligent arcane mage
Yeah, close enough i guess...

A well played affliction lock can still make healers cry. Even at 20 without enchants and not even BIS. I was surprised by how well the spec did. Take the drain soul talent and kill hunters that try to los.
