Which brackets don't suffer from grandfathered gear?

I just learned that some twinks, now, have gear which isn't obtainable any longer. Are there any brackets where this isn't the case? I imagine 119 is that say, but what about others?

I mean, does it really matter? I'm destroying people left and right with my twinks and they aren't even BiS geared. Play any bracket you want to.

The number of people youll ever see with grandfathered gear is likely not even 5% of the people youll face in any bracket.

But I can guarantee there's a lot more than 5% better than you in every bracket, so gear is the least of your worries.

I have yet to run into anyone in brackets 39-79 with any impactful grandfathered gear. The sum total impact of most grandfathered enchants reach the same level as a buff consumable, with the exception of a very few people who have GF'd Zul'Gurub enchanted BoA legs (I only know of a couple, and one left WoW for the time being). Could you elaborate on your concerns, @FourtyOunce ?

you also have to take into consideration, that even in the smallest bg with 10 players each, if the 9 others are so fked up, you being a super twink makes no difference, you still get farmed by the 10 averagely geared enemies .. which is what happens most of the time, you have to expect that at least 5 of your team players are lvling players and they can be using gears thats 20 or 30 lvls below what they are supposed to be using

It might be the principal of the thing. I'm concerned that I'd devote time and effort into getting a character geared up and find that I'm at a distinct disadvantage, and later learn that no matter any effort I pay to it, I'll continue to be at a distinct disadvantage.

My concern really isn't competing against the majority. I want to know that when if I queue, as a twink, and find myself against a a random group plus another twink...that I'm not handicapped versus the good I could do in another bracket.

Gfd gear barely makes a difference in most brackets if not all. If you are having this problem, it's probably just you and not the difference in gear.

That’s one of the points of twinking. Lol. Make whatever toon in whatever bracket you’d like, and in a few years you will have gear others do not

At 19, the only gf’d item that makes a difference is northrend engi! Certain legion items are bis, but they don’t make the twinks unbeatable.

That's a legit concern from expansions past (looking at you, Cata). Fortunately, BfA pretty much wiped the slate clean such that either new gear became BiS, or grandfathered gear competed directly with new gear and came out pretty close. For example, I have grandfathered head enchantments on my 39 and 69, but someone could even them out by wearing the Feathermoon Headdress at 39 and using a consumable at 69. It's not the insanity that it used to be from expansions gone by.

understand that I'm not here criticizing twinking. you can put the defensive wand down. I actually haven't attempted to twink in any bracket since my return. I'm just casually leveling through various brackets for fun. I'm just trying to understand the landscape. But, before investing the time and effort into a bracket, I'd like to understand what I'm getting into.

That's what all of this is about.

appreciate the feedback. It's helpful, and maybe I'll cast aside the little advantages for activity.

Which brackets are most active for twinking?

I believe the better question is:
which bracket does GF gear least impact?

Since I'm not up to date, I'd have to guess the higher the bracket you go the less it matters.

I'd say that brackets with the most GF'd gear are the 1-39 brackets.

The gear makes less and less impact the higher level you are & none of it is game breaking. You will simply lose out on a couple of % in secondary stats and maybe the smallest amount of mainstat.

With the gear available right now you can still compete & beat those with GF'd geared characters.

Unless you want to twink at level 1. The GF'd gear there makes a big difference.

I have a deeply grandfathered 39 warrior. I've got gear dating back to BC on him. Grandfathered trinkets, extremely high end damage weapons, gf enchants, etc

I also have a 39 warrior I built last month. All new gear.

The performance difference between the two is nil. Just straight up gonna do as well on one as the other.

Reason being is alot of the gear is demonstrably better than the old gear. Though my heart breaks to see pendulum of doom replaced by a common boss drop.

I'm not entirely sure but I've got a sneaking suspicion this is true across brackets.

You won't be at a disadvantage at all. Pick a bracket and have fun.

Even tho, i thing the biggest advantage in all Brackets have lvl 19 Warriors who have Emil's Brand (61dps 15str 4stm)and Glacial Stone (5,8dps) compared to a 2h Weapons you can get now wich has 4,6dps and 12str.

Then get better as a player and you wont be, regardless of the gear involved.

You're creating this fictitious situation to shield yourself from the fact other players are better than you.

Good players will beat bad players in good gear. When you lose, 99% of the time it wasn't "grandfathered".

I think the biggest advantage is the 10-19 warriors who have:

In all honesty, grandfathered gear has not really been an issue in twinking(minus a very few crazy things). People have grandfathered gear in all brackets and regardless of my grandfathered enchants and gear, there are some in the 70 bracket that have an easy 30+main stat on me just because of the non squished enchants they have or other various items. As much as legion twinks want to complain that gear carry’s and legion was great because everyone was equal is kidding themselves. If you can play the game there are very few items you can no longer obtain that grant a significant gear advantage to the point where you will be completely swept aside. And those players with these pieces you probibly will never run into since they are so few and far between. Gear is obviously going to be a disparage, but if you aren’t willing to put the time and effort into a toon because you’re afraid it will be itrelevent, that is simply not the case. But don’t be that guy who just refuses to farm items that are still obtainable and complains about a gear advantage and you’ll be fine. :)
