Class Viability For Selling Islands - Questions

Hey guys!

Loooong term lurker, first time posting really! So I've noticed the uptick in 110s on my server, but most of them seem... pretty average. I want to put together a really beastly 110 to blow the competition out of the water (US-Alliance).

Since DH seems to be the meta, I kind of want to do something a little different. Wondering what people think about the following classes and if they have any tips as to legendaries to shoot for etc.

- Warlock (I'm guessing Aff since mass corruption would be some incredible healing + easy to spread damage)
- Death Knight (Blood, very tanky but unsure if it has the DPS to do really quick runs, on the other hand UH with mass diseases on everything sounds great but not sure of survivability)
- Balance Druid (Just dot everything within a million yards and starfall everything?)

So yeah, if anyone has tips/ideas/armories/legendary combos I'd love to hear and have a chat! Also down to chat on discord if anyone wants to PM me their discord address (I can't message people yet - too low post count).

Thanks!

Hey there,
I’m not so sure about islands. Blood DK would be decent but definitely slow kills. Affli lock might be your best bet.
Also, once you decide on a class, feel free to hit me up for Mythic Ant carries! I can get you overly geared in no time! Pressonekey#1345

There are several things to consider when making an island expedition farmer. You want a class that has mobility, has strong aoe and single target dps, and has defensive abilities/survivability that match up with this specific kind of content. The reason why DH are so strong is because of their incredible aoe and mobility. What they lack in single target dps they more than make up for in aoe. Their mobility is top notch. They have massive leech capabilities, which make them immortal if you have half a brain and can negotiate mostly simple cc mechanics.

Good alternatives are paladins, druids, locks. Paladins move quickly while mounted, can do very strong aoe and single target burst, and they can heal/bubble when things get messy. Druids have good mobility, lots of utility, great aoe. Druids can continuously pull while their moon/starfire eat away npc's health. I don't have any experience playing a lock in islands but from what I can surmise on my lower level locks they can do the same thing as druids in terms of pull style. Dot and run. The only problem with them is mobility, which comes at a price.

My only struggles in islands is killing large groups and having that rare elite that is way behind the rest of the group. They catch up late and have full or almost full health and now I'm doing strictly single target dps on a high health npc. DHs do not have the best single target compared to other 110 twinks, so this can prove to be time consuming. In reality the time it takes is not very long, but it feels that way compared to how DHs handle the rest of the island.

Thank you very much for your insight. I think I'm leaning prot pally as a first attempt at making a 110, seem fairly solid.

Also, for those that sell - on my realm the going price is 2 to 2.5k per run, how does that stack up compared to your respective realms?

Here's my experience with the following classes:
Paladin - Beast mode when played right
Druid - Same thing, was able to do about 8 minute runs just dotting shit and running away on my Druid that isn't geared well
DK - Blood can do mass pulls but haven't tried it, however, UH I got experience with it and it can do massive AoE DoT and Burst if built right, I didn't build mine entirely correct as I made him before we even knew about Azerite traits for classes

There are a couple YouTube videos by someone named Marawders making a 111 Enh Shaman and soloing dungeons. That would give run speed, decent cleave, and self healing, no?

I was wondering if my 110 enh shaman could do speed runs would be pretty cool, out of my 110 twinks/farming toons seems that might be the best. Unless my Unholy Dk can rot which seems better more if my PvP talents were actually active lol.

Im currently boosting with my 110 Elemental Shaman.
Even when Elemental sucks right now (waiting for 8.1) im able to do runs in 3 1/2 - 4min. Aoe Damage is crazy
I'm still pissy about the CD on flame shock reason i rarely play ele and it's current state doesn't help either. Wonder which spec could burn through a IE faster. Been working on ny Priest pass 2 weeks and never grinded IEs till I made my 119 priest.

Arcane has a lot of potential, movement and Aggro/ranged tagging is actually better than demon hunters with the talent chrono shift , you just can’t mess up after rounding the island and Aoeing.

Some tricks I use are legendary ring —> frost nova proc and use every single CD off the bat, while keeping nether tempest up, so if I get CCd, my 30% leech might save me. Can fall back on ice block if needed, and can continue to kite if I need to buy more time after using CDs, normally don’t.

different would be making a monk to do islands spamming keg toss. believe me ive thought about it. you chose the top dps classes and their most popular spec leaving out only mage.

i found this to be the case yesterday when doing a few IE on a fresh 111 dh. for completion of islands the fastest would a route just for trash mobs be best? i understand the idea of killing as many rares as possible for more lewts ang big azerite chunks, but the time needed focusing some of the silver rares really can add 20-30 sec to a run. referring to the unbound azerite guy mostly but some of the other rare elites have cc mechanics and others straight up can 1 shot you. thoughts?

If all you care about is speed then going out of the way to grab rares isn't necessary. However, many of the silver elites are easily pulled just doing a normal path so you will still run into the problem of them lagging behind from time to time (damn crocs always seem to do this).

I was using prot pally and went to ret...ret is pretty solid tbh.
My aff lock isn't geared enough yet to do these runs as well...I imagine though dot and run would work well with the right leggos and gear.
DH is the way to go for AoE, I just haven't played my DH much since Legion...not into the class much.

I've seen enh shammy do really well but they are squishy, so not sure how that goes...

It's hard to do something a little different that also blows the competition out of the water, because people tend to play what's known as optimal.

So if you want something that hasn't been done, but also performs better than what we know, you'll have a little research/theorycrafting/testing to do :-]

My affliction lock can do islands in about 4 mins each if you have other 2 party members loot nodes/chest etc.

For talents get blazing speed, the aoe drain orb thing (don't remember the name) and the permanent corruption. Use the legendary piece that adds a slow to corruption. Then use the 3 azerite traits that empowers your drain life and if possible the 2nd trait that gives either leech or +speed when killing an enemy.

This allows you to turn on blazing speed and literally chain pull non stop. The corruption stacks so quick you can drain elites and kill them in a matter of seconds and continue pulling.

My Enh Shaman isn't even geared tbh and he can do massive damage. I had 1 azerite piece on him and decided to try out an IE. I managed to pull big pulls (about 5-20 mobs so that I didn't crash or die) and I survived until I would get stunned because the stuns really fuck up your damage and healing.
