EU+US Looking for advice for a new Havoc DH

Greetings to this excellent community. I've recently discovered the joys of Twinking and have a few questions that go somewhat beyond the outstanding, general guide for 110s. I started a new thread as the topic here is specific to DH and probably do not belong in the existing thread of the aforementioned guide.

Currently, I'm at iLv 223 and just upgraded the Order Hall so that I can equip 2 leggos. I started this character from scratch on one of the shared realms of my main. In roughly 2 weeks time, I took a DK to 70 in order to unlock DH for that server, then worked on the DH to where he is now.

  • Question #1 After Raddon's, which leggo should be the next one to acquire and equip? I suspect it's likely Sephuz or Cinidaria and certainly I intend to acquire those along the way. Given that my primary purpose is to blitz IEs and use this character to earn Legion flying, what would be the 2nd legendary to acquire and equip next?

  • Question #2 Regarding BFA Rare drops, currently they seem "stuck on" 210. At what iLevel will they start creeping upwards toward iLv280? Is this a function of my overall gear or the Neck? Should I be "saving these" for later? Are they just to generic to even care about them?

  • Question #3 This is probably a generic question that could have gone in the guide, but due to the unique nature of the Havoc spec and it's Head Leggo, I included it here. Which should I be pursuing first: BFA upgrades to gear or Mythic/Heroic Legion gear?

  • Question #4 The armory really only has a single 110 Havoc DH as a model, would anyone else care to share to give me something to shoot for?

Thank you in advance for your responses and feedback.

Sup

  • #1 Crafted leggo boots, then Sephuz & AotHG if you want to make a single target set

  • #2 They remain i210 and can't proc higher ilvl, only socket and tertiary. Can be good to gear a fresh toon but none of it is BiS.

  • #3 Get Eyes of Rage azerite pieces then it's all antorus gear

  • #4 Shoot for i265 mythic titanforged antorus pieces with mastery & speedprocs

Cheers

Thanks Speedrun for the response. Cheers!

Following Necroaqua's excellent guide, I was able to procure the Eyes of Rage trait on the 7th legion chest. Not sure why, but it reads as iLv 300 in game, possibly due to the azerite empowered function? I guess this is a glitch that does not appear on the Armory.

For anyone learning from my progress here, once you've got the two leggos and a single Eyes of Rage, you'll make a mockery of your pug Freehold runs IF you're an alliance toon farming up the Gold-Tasseled Epaulets.

I had to solo fucking freehold for the shoulders since i couldnt find anyone to run me there. luckely u can skip all bosses.

Just know that drops can upgrade to ilvl 217 at 110. That's an Epic upgrade proc from 210-217. I have some weapons and gear on alts that procced to 217 which is very nice. If you want some more ideas there's plenty of DH in this community, just know that you don't have to follow a very strict guideline on how to make them but if you want the most damage I would go the mix/max route for it.

What drops? As far as I know it's only bfa quest rewards that can proc ilvl, not rares/dungs drops

I tried to solo Freehold, but just not enough Umph in my Dude yet. Got the Shoulders to drop on the 5th run. Sadly, not iLv 300 though, not sure why that is.

Advice for New Bro DHs Starting Their Journey
  • Get both Legendaries first if at all possible as it makes your BFA questing really, really fun.
  • There's a very easy to acquire Trinket from the little Witch Girl with the tea party that you can score right off the bat if you start in Drustvar.
  • I think Enchanting for the Disenchants off all the BFA gear you're going to see is a nice way to earn a bit of Passive Gold is probably better than the gathering professions. I'm not certain, but Engineering simply for all the handy gadgets might be one to consider also (Nitro Boosts on a belt is so good). Swapping your professions in BFA is pretty much painless.
  • Seals of Fate for the rerolls in Legion gets you an easy source of weekly Wakening Essence. Your Main can probably ship your Alt a butt-load of Order Resources via the Blood Trader in Dalaran. Those chests are account bound and it's not likely that you're doing anything else w/ BoS.
  • IGNORE Icy Veins and Wowhead guides for your kit. I'd advice using Speedruns' toon as a model and stack the ever-loving shite out of Mastery for Eye Beams and Fel Barrage damage.
More later...

Is there more to it? I have several talks with probably the highest ilvl DH on EU and he goes for versatility over anything else if I can and only really uses the leggo to kill off mobs and pulls the entire island.

I'm very curious as to how it should be done otherwise, as I'm currently investing all my game time into my DH twink. Even deleted my old 117 DH, just to try something new and it is quite a bit more fun to to have so much to do in a sense on one toon again.

You can play it a lot of different ways... for IE’s... the leggo head with double eyes of rage do best with mastery, it just ramps up the eye beam damage. Vers is good all around. For questing/dungeons, I like the haste with sezputz(?) ring for super fast chaos strikes... I’m still working thru content and filling out my gear, but different builds / gear will be optimal for different situations
[doublepost=1542993065,1542992976][/doublepost]Ps.. you’ll kick ass anyway you go, just discovery the right mix of leggo/stats/traits for each case

I'd weight Speedruns' advice pretty highly as I have seen his work on Reckful's stream and know that he is speaking from experience. Mastery also buffs your Fel Barrage which is a pretty absurd amount of damage in its own right when your eye beams are cooling down.

Aramis Wip Havoc Demon Hunter

I was lucky in that my main (and other characters) are on a shared realm so I can essentially have 3 DH. Lucky me!.

Got the Shoulders to drop on the 5th run. Sadly, not iLv 300 though, not sure why that is.

At 110 the highest ilvl azerite DROP you can get is 285. Only the quest rewards can go to 295 (300) after a certain number are done. At level 117+ the dropped azerite armors increase to 295 ilvl.

He was on 1 stream from some semi-famous streamer and he somehow now knows everything? We're still learning a lot about the 110 bracket, not to mention the 111. While he has some experience in this situation, despite how he acts on here, he isn't an experienced person. He only made an account on here after that stream so that he could brag about it, after which he's basically acted like he knows everything about everything when he's still new to twinking from how he acts and talks about it. Most of the 110 bracket is full of people who did 101 Twinking in Legion and that's how we know about most of the consumables and similar things that are used today.

I think my armory shouldn't be put on a pedestal as it's so far from BiS because once you have the items that enable the build, pushing ilvl has a minimal impact, personnally I prefered investing time into perfecting islands speedruns rather than perfecting my gear, because that has a much bigger impact on run times. Eventually I'll start working toward BiS to really min/max everything.

If you want to work on gear, here's what I consider BiS, let me know if you'd change anything:

Some versa vs. mastery numbers & analysis for islands at 110:

100 versatility = 4.8% dmg & healing, -2.4% dmg received

100 mastery = 8.5% chaos dmg & & 3.4% speed

~95% of your damage in islands is chaos, so let's factor that in, 8.5%*0.95 = +8% damage done from 100 mastery, rounding down

The 4.8% healing increase and 2.4% reduced damage taken has an absolutely minimal impact in islands (to not say useless) because the 40% base leech is much more than enough to keep you up, and you are unkillable unless you make a mistake so the 2.4% reduced dmg is also negligible, as if you make that mistake and eat a bad stun with the whole island on you, even ~12% reduced damage from a pure versatility stack won't save you.

So it's basically +8% damage and 3.4% movement speed from mastery vs. +4.8% damage from versa, using 100 rating of each to compare.

Keep in mind that the movement speed from mastery has (minimal) diminishing returns, but even if it wasn't there, just the damage increase from mastery makes it superior to versatility. The 3.4% from 100 rating was calculated with 674 mastery total.

So for islands, mastery is the clear choice, especially since movement speed is extremely valuable. For other content it depends on the amount of targets, single target versa is probably best, but I couldn't say. I'd ask your guy to see his numbers!

He was on 1 stream from some semi-famous streamer and he somehow now knows everything? We're still learning a lot about the 110 bracket, not to mention the 111. Jeez, I'd love to know how you got that perception of me. Not sure why I bother, but let me rectify a few incorrect things you said.

Being on that stream wasn't meant as a qualification, just something I thought was cool and worth sharing, as I had rarely seen pro players care about twinking, let alone his massive audience being hyped up about it and bombing me with 300+ whispers in the first 10 minutes of our sesh, asking to buy runs.

But clearly I was wrong, barely anyone here cared so I stopped sharing such content, which may be why you think that's all I did, but actually since that day I've been boosting some of the best players in NA including blizzcon finalists, several rank 1 players and top 5-100 cutting edge pvers, who are willing to pay me and certainly wouldn't even talk to me if I didn't share their sense of efficiency. I just don't mention that here, but it felt necessery now since you were assuming false things about me.

By the way that ''semi-famous'' streamer is arguably the most accomplished wow player of all time, being the first ever to reach 3000 rating, and hit rank 1 in 6 consecutive seasons (back when it was actual rank 1, not the current system with a bunch of rank 1s) then took a break from wow to build a massive community and basically create the IRL section on twitch. I may sound like im fanboying a little but I'm just trying to give you an idea of who he is since you don't seem to know. If you think im biased feel free to check his wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reckful) or read a bit about him elsewhere. I'd just say that his recent return to wow was highly anticipated, so yes I was pretty hyped to get to play with him on stream, and seeing his chat love the content.

Now a little about me since you assume several incorrect things (please let me know how you came to these conclusions). This is a recently created account because I wanted the name Speedruns as it is all I do at 110, and it's my character's name. I've been around since 2005, made my first twink the first week Warsong Gulch came out, back when 20-29 was the lowest bracket. I was around for pwndepot and back when twinkinfo.com was just a blog after meeting drayner in-game.

Since then, I've been passionate about pushing wow characters to their absolute limits, combining near-skillcap with optimal gear and seeing what you can achieve. I've always been a fan of maximize the efficiency in everything I do irl, and twinking in wow is the best thing I've found to emulate that in-game. At core I'm a pvp player, having peaked on #2 US team in legion, but nowadays I mostly play twinks to push the limits in pve as pvp lacks the competitive aspect I liked. I played every twink brackets in every xpac since launch at what I like to think is the near maximal potential, although I give it to you in legion I opted for having 10 classes with ~850 socket/leech gear instead of 1 with super high ilvl, so that's one thing I haven't experienced but I have a pretty good idea of what it was like after watching others.

Not sure why I bothered explaining this, but it feels frustrating when I invest time here (a lot of it is behind the scenes, responding to people asking questions in PMs here or on discord) to share what I've learned and people like you trash-talk for seemingly no reason. Maybe the way I communicate it makes it seem passive-aggressive, if so I apologize, I realize that communicating is something I must work on and the language barrier isn't helping, but I don't see any other reason as to why you'd react this way to what I truely believe is valuable information. I'd love to hear your constructive criticism instead.

If you think something I posted is wrong, or if you know something I don't, please say so! There's nothing I love more than learning!

Heck I'd love more guide content because I find it very interesting and honestly, a major part as to why I started twinking myself, is because of Speedruns. It looked fun as hell and actually gave value to a game, I personally think is running so stale in terms of endgame content.

@Speedruns thanks for the stat analysis (mastery vs Versa)... very helpful for figuring what’s best in each situation. Not sure why you’re getting grief ... I’ve always appreciated your posts as a template / standard for what’s achievable in IE’s.
