Currently shows 77% crit but I have 88%. Trying for 100% with well fed. Going to level my JC and get the two socket trinkets, serpent and owl. Should be 92-93% unbuffed once I get them. Roughly 95% with well fed. Any other noteworthy upgrades?

Man you freaked me out lol. I thought this was for a 70 mage. I know when i was fire long ago at level 70 I had 74% crit using only bc gear. I read the 88% thing and freaked out lol. I'm impressed that you can get that high at 80. How does your dps compare to a frost mage?

Arcane is best at 80 from what I’m told. I’ve always just gone crit stacking fire for constantly moving Kiting. it can actually counter certain OP classes that other specs can’t

I need to remake my 70 mage....

I think my 70 mages crit with full crit stacking is like 78% but could be wrong. And there were a few upgrades I needed. 70 and 80 fire mages can get obscene amounts of crit, and 91s 100% no problem

Imo using the int/crit gems is better I would reccomend like 50% crit and then everything else intellect

Whys that
You would have to do more than half the damage of a fully intellect stacked person to make it worth doing all crit
And that’s if you had 100% crit

It’s not amazingly compaired to int stacking, however it is very expectable burst. Which ends up being quite good for pvp
and quite unexpecting for anyone in a duel, would be fun to try.
i'm assuming int stacking is essentially the best way to go about 80 mages?

For arcane absolutely. When I’m fire tho I like to crit stack. It’s like always having a combustion up

To maximize damage you always need a balance of different stats, so stacking one stat is never a good choice unless you're doing it for "fun", or whatever.

You can try to think of each stat as a separate multiplier to your damage. Imagine a world where no stat synergies existed at all; you would need an exact equal amount of each secondary to maximize your damage.
Example:
Someone hits for 100 damage every second, giving them a DPS of 100. Adding 10% crit and 10% haste to that person will always result in more damage than adding 20% of either stat.

100 DPS + 10% haste = 110 DPS
110 DPS + 10% crit = 121 DPS

100 DPS + 20% haste = 120 DPS

In other words: (100+10%)+10% > 100+20%

Now, obviously this isn't how WoW works. All classes have significant synergies with certain stats. And that's where a lot of people seem to get confused, thinking "Well if crit is better than haste for fire mages why would I ever get haste over crit on a fire mage?".

But the fact is that even if certain secondaries are weighted better than others, you will always reach a point (often earlier than you would think) where other stats, other multipliers, start adding more value to your character.

Always having combustion up sounds like the dream..

Perfect explanation, makes sense to me. Now I just need to find the perfect balance for my 80 Frost mage!
