I think Burning Crusade was my favorite time to twink. Xp-off bgs weren't a thing yet so queues popped regularly. There were many ways to gear a twink like high stamina for FCing, balanced gear, glass-cannon, etc. Talents were more open, so you could make hybrid builds if you wanted. Vanilla and BC enchants were available (if you had the gear for them) which added some complexity to finding the best gear.

I don't know how anyone could disagree that from the release of wrath to soon before cata wasn't the best period. Before xp locked bgs, original Zg and ZA, head chants..
Being 70 during this period was awesome, the community was HUGE and I was on a small oceanic server.. there were 150man 70guilds in korgath and on my server Jubeithos there was an insanely popular 60guild called angel of death that had huge numbers aswell. Insta ques and actual gear progression for the brutal pvp set... 70 died for me when the brutal set became the easiest thing to buy (didn't require arena rating anymore) which was late wrath. It all went downhill from there. For EVERY bracket, they all changed for the worse after wrath.

Probably should not have have specified patches, only xpacs.
What is "peak" in Twinking varies per individual. For myself, it is with short queue times and playing with lots of different people as I simply just don't have the luxury of a lot of spare time.
For others, it is just the opposite. They prefer to play with the same people over and over and over again. And the same Battleground over and over and over again.

Burning Crusade right after they added cross-server BGs. True golden era of twinking. There were TONs of twinks and twink guilds, TONs of leveling chars (who could actually bring alot to the table against twinks), instant BG procs, premade battles, all classes were balanced, gearing was fun and rewarding.
Its been worse and worse after that.
WoTLK pretty much killed 29 bracket making hunters extremely OP.
Then hairlooms removed gearing part from twinking.
Forcing locked XP characters into their own bracket was a huge hit for twinking community overal.
And Legion pretty much killed twinking entirely.

IMO TBC, and Wrath, also 1.12.1 was never considered a Ex-pack my dude, still isn't to this day. just figured i'd catch you before you hurt yourself

This thread is kind of fun but it kind of sucks at the same time. The question is very subjective and hard to really pinpoint a specific expansion as the best because each bracket had different ups and downs at different times.
19s - WoD
IMO this was the best expansion for 19s due to such a high level of activity that revolved around the TC and fostered amazing competition.
20s - Cata
It was the first expansion that really brought this bracket from the dead due to F2P and it was an incredibly fun time to be a F2P player. Tons of faces on daily, and had a really good community, peaking at 60ish players on ONE faction on ONE server.
29s - TBC
Had the largest population 29s ever had, had plenty of premades happening.
39s - Wrath
IMO the gameplay from this time period was the best there ever was for this bracket, and since then has been pretty dead with only small revivals for a few weeks.
49s -
No experience can't really speak on this. I know it had quite the community in wrath though.
60 - Wrath
Had an extremely stable community and AV was popping all day, not to mention there were still plenty of people leveling in Outlands, making for some fun wPvP.
70 - Wrath
HUGE community, rated arenas, you actually had to climb rating to get your s4 gear, no bracket has seen anything like that since.
19s - WoD

I probably did more guilds vs guilds premades in TBC (1-4 premades a week, usually) than all the guilds combined in WoD. We were the only alliance guild in a battle group with 5-6 horde guilds, which made things easier. I think anybody choosing later expansions either never played back then, or never played COMPETITIVELY back then. Regardless, class balance was much better in TBC than it has ever been since.

Endgame was waaaaay more interesting to me in TBC. I only twinked for shits n giggles back then. EU was fucking lit early to mid TBC. Stormscale horde was fucking insane. Shoutout to the squads, ZOMBIES & NQQB SQUAD.

The first thing I notice from this poll is that over 90% of responses for the peak of twinking are not from Legion (57 of 61). At least 31 people voted so far, just in the three days since I posted this, and only 4 people said Legion was even in the top three. I think this shows 87% of us (at least 27 of 31 people confirmed so far) would enjoy twinking more if we moved to a private server.
I propose picking a single private server, populated and stable, and get a group of us to roll there.
Let's get some discussion! Would you roll on a private server if the rest of the twinking community would (as most of us admitted we'd enjoy)?

Old legendaries scaling up inside of instanced pvp during WoD was the coolest thing to play around with, especially in the 80-89 bracket. Voted WoD.
That being said, I've been on an instant 85 server by the name of wowmortal and I don't know if any of you have played on that server, but if there were a wod server with the same sort of set up as wowmortal's cata server, Id be happy to join and kite you all around.
