StarCraft: Remastered maintains the gameplay and balance that set the standard for the RTS genre, while updating graphics and audio, and adding matchmaking, ladder, social features, and more!

IRVINE, California—March 27, 2017—One of the highest rated, most celebrated games of all time has evolved. Blizzard Entertainment today unveiled StarCraft®: Remastered, a reverently crafted modernization of the original award-winning real-time strategy game. StarCraft: Remastered will offer a full graphical overhaul of the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War® expansion, while preserving the sublime gameplay that captivated millions of gamers around the world and served as the foundation for professional global esports.

“StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.”

The remastered graphics and audio will bring a modern look and feel to the timeless classic, with widescreen UHD support for up to 4K resolution. Other updates will include new illustrations to enhance storytelling in the StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War campaign missions; advanced matchmaking; full connectivity to Blizzard’s gaming network for social features and updates; cloud saving for campaign progress, custom maps, replays, and keybinds; support for eight new languages in addition to the original five; and more. While these improvements will bring StarCraft to the modern era, gameplay and balance have been precisely preserved, for an experience that will feel identical to veteran players.

Blizzard is developing StarCraft: Remastered for release on Windows® and Mac® PCs, with an anticipated release date this summer. Pricing and related information on StarCraft: Remastered will be announced at a later date. I mean, I don't think Blizzard should introduce new games, or at least new trademarks. Overwatch was cool, but now I'd love to see like a proper D1 remaster, a new expansion to WC3 or WC4, a new expansion to D2 or D2 remaster, making their legacy games (vikings, WC1 & maybe WC2) playable in browser, Oldschool WoW

Once again, that's just something I wish for, not something I predict will happen. I think that most if not all of the things I listed above won't ever happen

What do you think about it?

Nice announcement, but was really hoping for WC2 remaster first. Or even Starcraft on iOS.

I also echo the need for Vanilla/BC/Wrath servers. Your community shouldn't have to use private servers to get the game we paid for X years ago and the gameplay we loved.

This company has 0 new ideas.
I'm shocked they pulled off Overwatch. But I guess that was just scrapped Titan from a million years ago.
That's kind of the point, they didn't pull off Titan so they scuttled a 5+ year long Game (in development), made a few changes and re-branded it Overwatch. You've got to think about what Blizzard does VERY well, make Billions of $$$ off a handful of 10+ year old Games. What better way to continue doing so than to repackage old Games as new and make even more money.

While the US and EU might not buy into old Games with updated graphics, I can assure you the Asian market will, and that's where Blizzard makes most of it's money these days. Hell I'd be surprised if WoW's market share for US and EU combined was even 35%, most of our market has moved on from Blizzard, with exception to Overwatch (decidedly US heavy) and Hearthstone (universal around the World).

asian markets dont really generate revenue tho, last time i checked they play on bootlegs on their own thirdparties, and dont give a fuck about buying retail licenses for the legacy games

Asia does bootleg software heavily, but the legacy Blizz stuff had Battle.net which required a unique serial number to play multiplayer. I suppose they don't care though, and are fine with the traditional LAN party setup.

^ After what, 100'ish years of movies and TV & radio shows, they've done just about every conceivable plot twist, theme, situation, or subject. Nearly impossible to find something that hasn't been done before or written about.

OTOH, that doesn't mean Blizz should keep screwing up what they already have.

Every once in great while something comes down the pipe that is original. And it usually is a HIT!
