US Twinking in legion

Grandfathered
Hello!
I am a long time player who has come and gone. I twinned a lot back in the vanilla/BC/WotLK days but have only now come back for a bit of legion action. I am just wanting to make sure I don't miss anyyhing and to see if I need to know anything else. I am making a aff lock and will hang out at every range for a while. Here is what I know so far;
- I need the rings, the neck, the off-hand flower(not looking forward to going all the way there) and a set of mist-piercing googles with BoAs filling the rest
- trinket effects do not work
- enchantments do not work

Here are some questions I had;

- what proffessions are the best/are they actually helpful?
- do potions work?
- do food buffs work?
- am I missing any gear?
- I consider myself a decent player no matter the class, will I at least be competitive as a lock?
- any general information beyond gear that would be helpful since I haven't played WoW at all since CaTa

Thank you in advance for the help!!

full ilvl gear isnt absolutely necessary but its useful for getting to the first stat cap, mist piercing doesnt work, wand is most important if you're maining lock becuz of the bug thats been there since prepatch and still no hotfix because 110s dont get wands

food buff/elixirs work if you pop them pre-bg

afaik engi goggles are the highest ilvl still available for cloth wearers

rest of the gear is ilvl 25 cloak, ilvl 25 belt from dungeon boxes, ilvl 24 gloves from anywhere, cant remember what faction gets the ilvl 32 shoulders from ashenvale quests think its ally, every other slot is filled with rare bg gear from crates

agm is best trinket still available

think thats everything for a lock

Fishing Hat is highest ilvl for cloth.

Does dynamite still work? Or is it not effective anymore, back in the day i abused that. I am assuming that no outside things can be used in an instances BG

I have this lock on my main server, he is 18 right now. But thinking about finding another server to twink probably the one I can find a guild focusing on twinking

Destro lock is better at 19 imo, affliction can't compete with current fotm survival hunter + disc priest + balance druid shenanigans going on right now.

As others have said, mist piercing aren't good. You want to have your bonus for armor class (clothies wear all cloth, plate wearers need all plate, etc). Mist piercing don't count as cloth or anything, so you'd lose 5% int.

For the most part they don't matter. Alchemy has increased effects if you know the recipe for the potion/elixir iirc. Not sure if its still a thing. Other than that, have first aid.

- do food buffs work?

You can still health pot as far as I know. Buffs need to happen before you enter.

- am I missing any gear?

Link?

Assuming this is your armory: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/bleeding-hollow/Apolistus/simple

Head: Green tinted goggles (or fishing hat if/when it returns)
Cloak: ilvl 25 dungeon cloak
Shoulders: http://www.wowhead.com/item=5820/faerie-mantle
Wand: Technically theres an ilvl 22 wand from a horde quest...not worth transferring IMO.
Offhand: Stratholme Lily
Gloves: Any ilvl 24 green/white (ex Bright Gloves)
Trinkets: AGM (or minor recombobulator in the meantime)(fishing trinket eventually)

And then just getting lucky with the ilvl 27 BG boots/chest.

All of it is ilvl only increases, so you'll be seeing very minor (if any) stat upgrades. Up to you whether getting the upgrades is worth the time.
