Probably depends on quests and dungeons, but if you do them early, you might miss out on upgrades. If you're not f2p, this is likely not to matter (just level up quickly; you'll replace gear anyway), but with new alts I now just grind (explore, kill mobs) to level 5, get experience/gold from...

That's a bummer! Fished sodding everything in Northrend, then found this didn't activate the Jewelled Pole (so just sold them), but the bone poles have worked for my alts to date.

Thanks; regularly transit through Toshley's, but Outland Engineering is as of level 50. Going to try getting to and through the portal in Lights' Hope, provided Blizzard haven't patched it; in general any portals to interesting places are blocked for low-level characters.
