They are both very strong choices I use them both interchangeably on my prot pally. However the skullflame is typically the better choice in most cases.

On my prot pally I'm personally running as a proc build with 20% crit and 18% vers for PvE. I do not recommend stacking stam because if you do you lose a lot of damage.
This trick works on any gear listed as "cosmetic" so you can have full xmog sets. You do not just have to use the "hide armor".

No, it is not new however most people didn't know you could farm them that quickly. I was just sharing the love after all 6 of the people I told about my outcome had no clue that you could farm them anymore outside of SoO.
