Elarane's 29 Balance Druid Guide

Balance Druid's spread their dots and do tons of burst damage to enemy players inside of the battleground! Balance Druid's dominate the field and destroy everything in their path with massive amounts of damage and by also topping the charts!

Race
Picking the right race for a Balance Druid can be a big factor in the damage you deal, or the increase of survivability.

Horde
1. Tauren
Endurance: This increases your stamina by 197 (scales with level).
War Stomp: This is a stun that stuns up to 5 enemies within 8 yds for 2 sec. It is great for peeling for your healers or trying to get away and need something to stop an enemie that is chasing you for a few seconds.
Brawn: Critical strike bonus damage and healing increased by 2%.
Nature Resistance: Reduces Nature damage taken by 1%.

2. Troll
Berserking: Increases your haste by 15% for 10 sec. This can help do alot of burst damage and increase the speed of your dot ticks.
Da Voodoo Shuffle: Reduces the duration of all movement impairing effects by 15%. Trolls be flippin' out mon!
Regeneration: Health regeneration rate increased by 10%. 10% of total Health regeneration may continue during combat.

These 2 races are both very strong but I think for what balance druids do trolls are the best option here.

Alliance
1. Night Elf
Nature Resistance: Reduces Nature damage taken by 1%.
Shadowmeld: Activate to slip into the shadows, reducing the chance for enemies to detect your presence. Lasts until cancelled or upon moving. Any threat is restored versus enemies still in combat upon cancellation of this effect. This can help you get away from enemies that are trying to kill you.
Touch of Elune: Increases your Haste by 1% during the night.Increases your Critical Strike by 1% during the day.
Quickness: Increases your chance to dodge melee and ranged attacks by 2%, and your movement speed by 2%.

2. Worgen
Viciousness: Increases critical strike chance by 1%.
Darkflight: Activates your true form, increasing current movement speed by an additional 40% for 10 sec. This is a great racial that can be very helpful if you need to get somewhere very quickly or get away.

For this faction Night Elf is forsure the best race to go for balance druids.

Overall I would go Horde instead of Alliance due to there are alot more twinks on the Horde side then Alliance. Horde also have racial advantages to increase Survivability, Damage, and Health.

Talents
Force of Nature: Upon being summoned, our forest friends taunt all enemies within their target reticle.

Warrior of Elune: Your next 2 Lunar Strikes are instant cast.

Starlord: Lunar and Solar Empowerments also reduce the cast time of their affected spells by 20%.

At this very second Warrior of Elune is the best talent choice. It gives you 2 instant Lunar Strikes which will help you with a "Burst" Setup or to gain astral power.

Gear

Head: Heirloom Helm Ilvl 34
Neck:
Problem Solving Pendant Ilvl 80
Shoulders: Heirloom shoulders are BiS Ilvl 34

Your Job Inside the Battleground
Your job is to spread your 2 dots non-stop and keep the high damage pressure on to the other team. Pressuring the other team will force them to fall back and this will give you map advantage if you play it correctly here you won't go to the graveyard unless told by a healer or teamate that you are safe to move up. Once at the Graveyard make sure you are containing them non-stop dot spam and making their health rot. Even know you're rotting their team you also need to be bursting targets down if they're on a healer this is called "Peeling" this helps your healer out alot and makes his job 10x easier. A Balance Druid's burst is a Starsurge and usually 2 Lunar Strikes this does atleast 3/4 of a enemies health depending on how much health the enemy has. If you're in the graveyard containing their team and they dive on to you make sure you go bear form and don't run on top of a healer run towards him but not on top of him, If you run on top of him this will most likely get you both killed due to silences and stuns.
If your team is not playing the objective such as in a battleground like warsong where only 1 person is needed to carry the flag, you can grab the flag and run it across the field make sure you are in travel form and if someone opens on you make sure to go bear form.

P.S. Sorry for my bad grammar or spelling. :)

Rotation
Your Rotation should look like this-
Sunfire and Moonfire all targets near you before doing anything else, and make sure these dots are renewed and never fall of the target unless he is out of your range and is in a whole separate area. These are your 2 main dots and will do the most damage to your targets overall. Next just cast a few Solar Wraths here and there to gain a bit of Astral Power this will be needed for Starsurges for major burst. Once you have the Astral Power needed to use Starsurge use it with atleast 1 of your 2 instant casts of Lunar Strikes from Warrior of Elune, Combining these 2 spells will do alot of damage to the target. If you're bursting a DPS target instead of a Healing target make sure you Root/Solar Beam the healer if there is a healer near the dps, Solar Beaming the healer will make it so he can't heal the enemy target you're targeting this will set you up for a "Burst Kill". A "Burst Kill" gives you and your team the advantage in mid due to the player count. Once you Starsurge you will get 2 bonus damage procs 1 for Lunar Strike and 1 for Solar Wrath, these increase the damage of these spells by alot. Using these procs for setting up kills means you're a very smart player. At the end you should be top damage and you should also have the most killing blows.

In Progress for Updates and things!
I will Update this when new patches/updates come out with all the new info I can find thanks for reading and have a great day! :)

The goggles are for sure, no longer BiS. They are worse than heirloom now, check it for yourself and update your list please. Maybe the boots are in the same boat aswell, but maybe not. I haven't played my 29s in a while but the goggles are bad for all levels now. The iLvl for it doesn't help as it has no cloth\leather\mail\plate on it. The boots are likely the same, as they don't have a any of the aforementioned. Don't call people salty due to your own ignorance. Good guide though, this comment wasn't meant to come off as hate if you take it that way, sorry.

You want full leather now.

Tips i can add in as a boomy main myself :
  • Rooting + Beaming healers
  • Stacking spell hits - I usually use solar wrath for enough astral power to use Starsurge, then with the last Solar Wrath, i instantly hit my starsurge then warrior of elune x2. Making it extremely hard to heal through when all 3-4 spells hit at once (not including dots)
  • Kiting while dots burn can help
  • Do not forget about the boomkin passive where you get insta casts + 200% Armor
  • Consumables help
  • Now that rejuv is gone, Entang roots -> First aid is a life saver.

Hope i could help :)

If you have decent healers you can also overextend a little to get instant lunar strike procs for extra damage. I'm also a big fan of treants. they do more damage than 2 lunar strikes if your target doesn't outrun them. This talent can be useless vs discs because of fear. In middle throw a starsurge when there's nothing left to dot and cast some lunar strikes and solar wraths with the buff. Also use beam to interrupt a cast not to prevent one, if you interrupt a cast it will silence the target outside the beam aswell for 4 secs or so. Ur dots also spread to other targets automatically so watch which one isn't applied yet, don't waste a gcd.
