EU+US Demonology FC/Runner

So here's something I'd like discussion on: demonology brings a lot of interesting utility to battlegrounds in a low damage trade off. I've heard the idea mulled over before and decided I'd invest in making it an actuality rather than just theory.

*Still a work in progress, but mostly built for proof of concept*

So the general idea is that demonology can utilize glider plays much like a hunter can with the added benefits of:
-Shorter cooldown jump
-Armor in excess of any other clothie, comparable to most tanks
-Viable CC kit

With the tradeoffs being:
-Lacks damage output (though so do FC hunters)
-No passive movement bonus

Those are just a few off hand. Demo has a lot of primary FC and secondary runner options and I'd love to have input on the idea.

Not enough mobility or CC to be as good as a hunter. Disengage talents let you run fast and you can set traps and instant cast concussive all day. Lock doesn't have as reliable of CC and ability to escape slows stuns etc. Like what do you do if you got 3 people on ur ass with no help?

It should work alright in PuGs, if you can prove me wrong then props!

Fair points, but here's rebuttal. Leap goes father than disengage does, and what it lacks in movement speed it makes up in defense. As much armor as a tank and a flat 10% reduction with moderate self healing capabilities go far. If you want an instant slow, you can glyph into an aoe slow in gul'dans or just use it in demon form. Succubus is the only pet that makes sense and is a more reliable cc than trap, although not instant. Ideally no FC should be alone, but in that situation it's got enough bulk to take a decent time to kill.

I have enough FC'ing experience to know that speed >> tankiness, at least in PuGs. What it lacks in movementspeed does NOT allow it to make up for it in defense.

That said I didn't know about the AoE slow. And succubus will indeed help. Main thing is to make it and play it. Make doubters like me believers.

Yep yep. Got enough of it together to do some test games tonight. We'll see how it goes.

There's a glyph to slow instantly on 1 gul'dan against anyone in range of the hit, plus it snares if you use both I believe so that's some good CC for warlock. Not to mention fear spam. Warlock can be good FC but def not the best, just make sure you have slow fall if you wanna do tot jumps as demo to glide across like a boss.

Demo tanking is significantly easier as horde than as alliance. Why? Because running from ally FR to horde FR is a downhill slope, ans speaking as someone who's been there on both factions, your demo leaps send you a MUCH further distance when you're running the right direction :)

Demo FCing is an extremely interesting side hobby, although it is much, much more feasible at 29 than at 20. Glyphed hand of gul'dan gives you an aoe snare that, as opposed to a 20 demo lock's only snare that costs 80 demo nrgy out of your typical 200 starting, costs nothing and actively GENERATES demo fury, giving you more jumps(the bread and butter of demonology). Hand of gul'dan should almost NEVER be used for damage; ALWAYS think of it in terms of snare utility number one.

You also have an incredibly underutilized defense against rogues and druids! Hellfire. Combined with your level 27 passive health regen, you can make your entire flag run under the effects of hellfire, and knock stealthies out before they can open on you four times out of five. If you see a stealthie go into stealth, you can leap into their projected location and be hellfiring them out of stealth before you land.

NEVER waste your demo fury on offense if you're carrying the flag! You should be constantly dotting corruption to gain demo fury, and using your fury for only two things: demo leaping, and staying in demo form whenever a physical damage user is upon you or if a stealthie is expected. The armor bonus is great; I think mine was 38% or something in demo form. Keep a VERY close eye on your demo form cooldown. If you have to go into demo form for a leap, don't leave demo form until cooldown is off; you do NOT want to get caught by a melee when your armored form is on cooldown!

And although I often feel I am alone is this, haste beats the shit out of versatility for a FCing set for DEMO LOCKS ONLY. Coming from someone who started FCing using vers and fell in love with haste after giving it a shot, haste has some unsurmountable advantges. You will generate MUCH more demonic fury by getting more corruption/hand of gul'dan ticks, giving you a significantly higher uptime on meta form, which translates directly to less damage taken for a longer period of time. Your hellfire will tick MUCH faster, giving your anti-feral ability that much more use. And, my personal favorite, your fears are THAT much quicker. If a stealthie gets the open on you, demo leaping directly into a haste-fueled fear can keep you alive.

And of course, possibly the most important part of lock FCing is this: DO NOT GIMP YOUR TEAM! If there's a top-tier FC out there like thot or someone else, let them take the flag, or pick it up and run it directly do them. No matter how good you are at demo FCing, there are only a few situations in which you'll be able to out-FC a GOOD druid or other FCing spec. There are plenty of opportunities to FC in games in which there simply AREN'T better options or your current FC sucks the nuts, but being cognizant of your surroundings and your teammates' strengths is important :)

that's all I remember off the top of my head. I mostly play SC2 right now but I went through a phase in which I loved demo tanking :D edit: best of luck mayne!! Hope you have fun giving it a shot. Any fun you can squeeze into demo right now is worth it since the spec will be completely unrecognizable once legion pops out :)

Love seeing demo warlocks!

Ahh, this is where my envy of hunters come into play. The ONLY type of slow fall available to warlocks at 29 that does NOT trigger demo leap cooldown is that festive mug thang. If you parachute, it puts demo leap on cooldown, and if you demo leap, it places parchute on cooldown. Same with all the slowfall potions I don't remember the names of, and other crap I've tried. Most of the crap that works with hunters won't work with a demo D:

Goblin glider kits let you slow fall with leap :p

Why didn't you make this tho . SMH

Demo locks make good FC's. Given that you know all the wall Jumps ect.

Ayy, plenty of great lock-and-maybe-hunter-specific jumps :) There's ways to leap up horde GY, horde tunnel, alliance tunnel, excellent getaway/bait-and-leap-back spots from both tunnels, and a jump I found through sheer persistence, the ally GY jump- although with taking three leaps to accomplish, it's very situational ^^ Still, the first leap into ally GY makes an excellent getaway/stalling tactic, even if you're horde :)
