EU+US Level 80 & 85 Soloing

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

Convert to 30 fps, also choose the h264 codec with ~10 Mbit bitrate, profile 4.0 auto. You can find that codec here Download K-Lite Codec Pack - mega or 64 bit , depending on your system. Also i will recommend to convert in Virtual dub only because its simple- Sony vegas and other editors have alot of profile/quality settings that you dont need, also they usually give you profiles for home camera videos with low settings. I will recommend you to get virtual dub last version, search for guides and do all the convert/compress/cut job there.

Awesome, thanks! I recorded an ICC at 30 fps and full screen. It looks great and the file was only 174 gb! I compressed it down to 4gb and the video is awesome! I guess I can use a trial version of sony vegas and put some music in there. I'm gonna do like Aelobin and speed up the video to get through trash real fast, and stay at regular speed for boss fights. I really liked that video of his! :)

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

What settings are yall recording your videos at?

I record with Fraps at 30 fps and full 1080p resolution (which results in about 2.5gb per minute of footage) and then edit it in Sony Vegas and render as .wmv (with some settings I found on Youtube).

I have it saved as .avi

What's the difference between .avi and .wmv? I'm new to this recording and editing stuff, as you can probably tell lol!

Also this video is 29 minutes long and I don't really know what music to put behind it. Originally I was gonna record with vent conversation on bosses and put in music during trash, but we didn't use vent so I only recorded video.

I have no idea tbh. When I started making videos I just did a bit of research and found quite a few people recommending .wmv, so I went with that and it's always turned out fine :p

And yeh, deciding on music for a long video is really hard :( I just had to find enough to fit 35mins of DS footage.

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

I had a good idea pop into my head, but I don't know if it's gonna work. For the last couple of hours I've put together a playlist of music from old school boss fights :) (Super nintendo games, nes games, computer games, etc.)

Gonna see if I can match up old bosses to the bosses in ICC lol! The hard part is going to be transitioning the boss music into other video game's music.....

The boss music of Spinal from Killer Instinct will be Marrowgar's theme :)

Gonna get home tonight and figure out how to get that music into my video. Is there a website you can download old school music like that from?

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

.wmv/.avi/.mp4 are just extensions, what matters is the codecs you use to compress the video and audio.

And generally the only places to get music for your videos is torrents, rip it off youtube somehow or buy the music.

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

Ah, ok!

I used Vdubb and Xvid to compress my video and it worked perfectly.

BUT, I'm gonna have to get a real video editing program. I imported my 4.09gb video into Windows Movie Maker and worked on it for about 4.5 hours. I saved it half-way through to see how it would turn out with the audio I put in. It looks absolutely terrible! I saved the file as big as it would let me (450 MB!)

The video went from 4.09gb to a measly 450mb. I'm so confused! Why did the movie maker compress my file even smaller than what I already compressed it? I'm such a nub at this, lol!

Edit: Oh yeah, I found a great site to get old school game sounds from! This video is gonna turn out pretty cool once I get it finished :) I just didn't realise how much work this actually is! 4.5 hours to edit 6.5 minutes of footage (out of 29 minutes!)

And holy crap Sony Vegas Pro is $450!!!

*add Russian accent* in Soviet Russia we do not buy any software; we laugh at those who do it in our country.

For the music be careful- youtube copyright detector is very good and will detect most of pop/rock/metal tracks; i'm getting music for my tracks here : https://soundcloud.com/stream Jamendo.com newgrounds.com/ - those are free for sure.

Tip#2: make a 640*480 video with audiotrack only (black screen), 640*480 will be enough, upload to youtube, wait for 5-60 mins to see the copyright thing.

Tip#3: if some track is detected and you really like it you can find a remix of it or edit it yourself- i recommend Cool Edit Pro 2.0 - yes its old but enough for that.

Movie maker is made to edit "family videos" from 640*480 cameras. Open your file and check quality- im 100% sure it will be very, very bad.

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

I got my sound clips from beemp3.com

It's all sound clips from old school video games, so they should be fine right? They aren't actual songs, just the music files for different parts of the game. You can download some of them straight from the video game website. I guess I can put together a bunch of sound clips like you said, and just upload it to see what happens!

I watched some videos on youtube about movie maker and I tried to play around with video settings. I set the video at 4:3 (?????) Should I have set it to 16:9 (????)

I also set the quality to High Quality STCS. A few of the videos on movie maker I watched said that was the best quality from it.

It took almost two hours to save the video, but when I played it back, it still looked absolutely terrible.

Anyway, what version of Sony Vegas should I get? Movie Studio 12 Platinum? Would that be a good quality video? I just don't want this video to look like total shit, lol!

I have sony vegas 10.0 , but i dont use it at all. I use Virtual Dub 1.9.3 0 its free and enough for base editing - VirtualDub - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Download link: http://www.virtualdub.org/
PS: some tutorials

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9XOgnaJ_Hs

x264 Encoding:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xx_kw8mYroM

Dont use Xvid. the compression is fast, but lower quality as x264 and it will take alot of time for youtube to recompress the video to their own format.

As an example of quality i can show you one of my videos in 1080p : http://youtube.com/watch?v=T_1tvvy2eI0 - the quality is very good (except the red text and very fast moving parts)

And here are the screenshots :
1- original quality, Fraps, uncompressed http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/6175/25hcsolo.png , entire video size ~15 Gb
2- Then x264 "lossless" compression , thats the VirtualDub result- http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/7217/25hcx264.png , entire video size is ~1.5 Gb. Can be smaller, but i prefer to use "lossless" profile to upload the maximum quality video.
3- after you upload, youtube will recompress it - http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/8422/vlcsnap2012121223h33m24.png , entire video size, uhm.. 159 Mb. 100x compression with fine quality

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

Please don't tell me I already screwed up by compressing my video before putting sound in it.....

I already compressed the original fraps footage with xvid before editing or adding sound to it. The file was about 178gb so I compressed it, and now it's 4gb. I deleted the original fraps recording (178gb)

Is there another thread we can start to discuss this? I don't want to annoy people by bumping this thread with no solo videos. I wish I knew someone in real life that could show me how all this stuff works, lol! This trial and error stuff is time consuming! I dont even get time to play now! lol!

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

Yeah, had a bit of trouble as the original video was captued in a less-than-stellar resolution, with a less-than-stellar piece of software (Gregion). Future videos will be made with Fraps as I wasn't all too happy with the results.

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

Yeah that music is great! I have to delete a sound clip from my video now :(

lol!

Great job!

Re: Level 80 Soloing Thread

Does that mean I can be on the list for RS? :)
Didn't want to ask, nor do I know if I must ask (or must not ask, for that matter), but I'll ask anyway! :D

In any event, there's more of those where that one came from.
