Dunno if this is what you mean, but this is how raid gear is in the dungeon journal.

I have an unscaled vanilla i28 weapon and it did not receive any scaling.
I have a couple if they ever give me back beta access :(

Edit: Just restart the BNet client, Chops. Its that easy, dumdum.
[doublepost=1663857482,1663853726][/doublepost]Some pretty neat stuff I've found just right off the bat

- Neither my post scaling or pre scaling Dazzling long sword have been affected by the DF ilvl change. IE theyre both ilvl 22 and ilvl 28 respectively.
- Malownes Slam now procs for 27 str
- Epic procs from quests seems to operate differently from rares (or wod is just weird). My epic Grekas Dentures are ilvl 56. Epic Sharti Greaves are ilvl 86

Currently unscaled items:
  • Heirlooms
  • Artifacts (need to check relics)
  • Pre SL vanilla stuff (destiny, khoos, dazzling etc)
  • Holiday gear (gfd and non gfd)
  • Azerite gear (gfd and non gfd)

Its worth noting that enchants are running into a "target is too high level" error on new gear. But existing enchants work. So, just to be safe, enchant any gear you got laying around thats lingering unenchanted.

Some of you guys SERIOUSLY need to chill and stop stressing. It's very very obvious what their intent is with the way they attempted to scale things.

So far they have only attempted to scale items that drop in dungeons that can scale to a players' level, as well as quest rewards which do the same.

Some quest rewards and dungeon items have been skipped but from what I've seen, the skipped items are all classic-tbc. Possibly some from Wrath as well.

I am fairly certain that once they figure out the item levels that all other existing gear will also be scaled accordingly, including raid gear as well as gear obtained many expansions ago.

The difference in item level between green/blue/epic shows that the intent of this change is to have a clear difference in stats between qualities, meaning that you can safely assume that by the time they're done and everything has been scaled correctly, that Epics will be giving the most stats -- as was originally intended since, well, that's how it's just supposed to work; Epic > Rare > Uncommon > Common > Poor.

That said, clearly these item levels are NOT FINAL.

Currently there is a massive gap between each rarity that is so large that on some items stats increase by 50% per rarity, and I expect them to shrink that gap to something more reasonable in the near future.

Furthermore, I believe that the item levels themselves are possibly too high for each level as well and may also be reduced; once again I'm referring to the graph provided by WoWhead that I've linked before. It shows that an average ilvl of 51 is most likely to be expected at level 25, with adjustments made for different rarities.

So all-in-all, what does this mean for us?

The only thing you have to worry about is that Epic gear will give the most stats.

So RIP to those with no epic cudgel. Time to remake your twink, or find other weapons to use.

Soooo.... Long story short, what I get from all of this, best thing to do is to farm WoD dungeons for epic warforged gear and pre-enchant it, also farm epic weapons from vanilla dungeons with interesting procs (Helloooo, Dragon's Call, blade of darkness and baron sword ).

I think it's pretty obvious that they aren't done scaling yet. It's only their second update to the smoothing and heirlooms aren't fixed yet as they said they would. So they're not done.

I will say that while I know many are annoyed by the changes, I honestly feel like this will give a breath of fresh air to my twinks.

I can't wait to dig through more and see what old gear got reawakened from this.

Someone was not here at the start of SL :Kappa:

I was and start shadowlands was a different situation. They openly stated this time they're planning to re-do ilvls from 1-60 this time.

That said, I'll give it to you that it's still Blizzard. So we never really know.

This is one of those "youre an experienced twink, you should know better" things

I'm just thinking logically. If they actually want to fix the game this time then they'll rescale ALL Gear. It's what a proper game developer would do.

Though I understand your cynicism since it's Blizzard.

Yes and no. I think certain blues with alot of socket slots are still going to remain BIS.

It's not really cynicism towards blizzard so much as an understanding of history and at least a passing knowledge of how they've differentiated between the types of gear that do and don't seem to scale.

They have a nearly impossible task in front of them and (here's the kicker) they don't know they do. I feel like I repeat this a lot but they do *not* pay attention to us. Nothing they are doing involves them looking at 20s and saying "does what we're doing make sense for these guys?"

They (and 99% of the player base) only care about how this stuff presents itself at end game and thats where everyone looks for bugs or wonky scaling issues. If it doesnt present there, then it doesnt exist on a priority list that matters. And if it cannot be fixed without affecting end game, then it doesnt get fixed.

Its not a matter of whether or not they "want" to "fix the game" (by which you mean balance low level pvp) its a matter of them not really being aware that they need to and the solution to any problem we might bring up is "just level up"

Heh, last time I did this they stuck everyone back into xpoff queues on patch day. Weird they did it first this time... That's an awful grind on a whim, just saying. If you do it I hope it works out super for those that did... but hope no one has to.

Apparently they're giving access to people completely unprepared for wrath and scurrying around trying to get that done... just got notice i'm in.

I'll check my 35's once it finishes downloading and let you know what it looks like.

edit- DOH missed that someone already checked, nevermind.

And apparently no i wont, not letting me copy characters. Good... back to wrath.

That's literally just a wild assumption.

With "all gear" I was referring to gear from raids and whatever doesn't currently scale properly yet. Seems illogical to do a half-job on purpose.

I'll agree with you that they may not update the item level of already obtained gear, however.

(by which you mean balance low level pvp)
Again, an assumption and a wrong one at that.

With 'fixing the game' I meant the item levels not matching the levels and the item upgrades not giving bonus stats.

You're thinking purely from a twink PoV. I wasn't.

*looks at forum title* yea, shame on me I guess

Hardly a defense. Anyone who thinks purely in twink terms will actually miss out on potential rare items from time to time.

Gotta think big-picture and see how that can apply to twinks, rather than purely thinking only about twinks.

Who is stressing?

Just use 2 2handers and grab a sulz and a barons sword ez.
Also I wouldnt put it past blizz to not rescale old raid gear and keep it purely for cosmetic transmog pieces.

Only thing I'm worried about what might happen tbh.

Who is stressing?
Got a bunch of people in my dms asking if their twinks are dead now.

Perhaps it's not so much stressing but definitely people already jumping to conclusions.
