Talents Preview Discussion [w/ Calaculator Link]

I am bear.

BM now having access to animal companion, 15% leech, improved mend pet, and misdirection - that is going to be very very friendly to PVE content with lots of heals for you and the pet. And no more worrying about threat when you can load it up with misdirection

Edit: wait, cobra shot might not be reducing the cool down of KC without a later talent. Apparently the tool tip is wrong and they separated that aspect into cobra senses. That's pretty sad if that's how it'll end up :(

Oh, I just noticed now that u mentioned it. Cobra Shot without the KC reduction is useless. This is very bad for low level BM.
Fingers crossed this changes before Live. Makes a huge impact on dps.
I wonder how switching talents work. I can see us wanting to go down the Beast Cleave path for dungeon clears but switching to Animal Companion for boss fights.

That potential Cobra Shot change worries me though. :FrogeTorch:

Dk gets another change with next build, death's advance and lichborne from lvl 9! Also some improvements to blood dk, frost still remains the same so far

New build coming up. Wowhead has a billion lines of patch notes but I don't know enough about all the classes to find the 20s stuff. The main things that stood out to me were that Vengeance DH talents will be opened and Priests got a PW: Shield change that seems good AND bad.
  • Power Word: Shield – Now a 7.5 seconds cooldown reduced by Haste. Absorption increased by 80%. No longer applies Weakened Soul.
Also for alpha players, character copy will be available.
The calculator on wowhead hasn't changed as of writing this, so look forward to it soon.

EDIT: Apparently we're in beta phase now, so opt into it if you want a chance to play it!

I’m a little unsure if wowhead is accurate (or anywhere close to complete given it’s alpha) with some of the DF class infos associated with its talent calculator.

For example: in list of skills each class will get and at what level, it claims that warrior won’t have other class-wide baseline abilities after level 14 (in contrast to other classes and their specs). Also, it claims paladin will get avenging wrath at level 1. I’m unsure if that’s actually correct, or a weird placeholder for higher level talents related to avenging wrath. Among other possible examples.

I also find it a bit unfortunate a few specs have a few talent slots where a level 20 can unlock a talent but it requires being a higher level to actually benefit from (assuming this is a case for a few talents). Worse are a few talents where one has to unlock a higher-level-but-unlockable-at-20 talent to reach a usable talent at a higher branch.

dude rune strike does as much damage as obliterate (cuz we lost inexorable), only uses 1 rune, improved death strike refunds runes pretty consistently, it took me about 20 seconds before i had any noticeable downtime as dual wield frost at 20? lets gooo baby

yeah basically, thats the tradeoff. with a high crit + vers build i dont think it will be extremely noticeable, in actuality we straight up just get RE/RC at 20 as frost/unholy baseline so obliterate could be usable depending on the build. BUT if you go killing machine then you seem to lose out on remorseless winter which means you lose out on a stun as dk which is pretty big imo. 29s ofc will be able to get both without care in the world though. for now, this is seeming like a nice build for 20 frost so far

edit to avoid doublepost; unholy is seeming really strong now that it has runic corruption and a perma pet (which also has dark transformation btw. pet kick ftw). i'm playing with like 2% haste cuz my gear never really prioritised it and it's still pumping with 500+ festering strike crits and minimal downtime compared to live 20 unholy. like, i hardly had any big downtime. most i did was like maybe 3-4 seconds when RC procced but with only 2% haste there's gonna be some downtime anyway. i can only imagine this with like 15-30% haste, its making frost seem so bad hahahaha

In very limited lunch break testing, it appears as though any accessible talent that operates on procs but says something like "requires level 24" in the tooltip text isnt procing.

So lava surge for Ele shaman, Tactician for arms warriors, etc just arent proccing.

This is one of those "gonna fly under the radar" things because most people are going to be testing these trees and abilities at max level. So anyone with a beta account needs to be spamming the shit out of bug reports for these talents or a lot of specs are going to be missing core functionality

New update on druids. Restos are getting Nourish back and, by the looks of it, Ysera's Gift, though they're at opposite ends of each other. They're also planning to make their Mastery better. Feral changes are coming as well, but I don't know much about them.

EDIT: Enh Shamans are getting changes too, on top of the Stormbringer talent (a row 6 talent) becoming baseline. Surv Hunters' Ferocity talent going from 2 points to 1.

As for Stormbringer becoming baseline for Enh, time will tell, as it can have a level requirement, or be a baseline passive that 20s can get but is still subject to the procs-from-formerly-higher-level-passives-not-pricing-at-20 bug that Chops highlighted earlier above that can be a problem if they ‘let it pass under the radar’.

In the talent preview for the Rdruid changes on WoWhead, I don't see the Lifebloom = 3x mastery bonus talent anymore... that could be a problem, depending on how the numbers for Resto's healing end up.

Changes coming to Balance Druids and Warlocks!
BALANCE DRUID
  • Mastery is changing: “Your Nature spells deal increased damage to targets affected by Sunfire. Your Arcane spells deal increased damage to targets affected by Moonfire."
  • Eclipse no longer alternates or reduces casting time, but still increases damage to the appropriate spells.
  • Starfall is once again a targeted area spell rather than just hitting enemies around you.
  • Starsurge no longer empowers the damage bonus of active Eclipses.
WARLOCKS
  • Spell Lock has been returned to the Fel Hunter :FrogeTorch:

Eclipse no longer alternates? So how does it get triggered and what happens after it ends?
