20s Guide Index and FAQ - Read Before Posting New Threads

Could I please propose https://xpoff.com/threads/consumables-and-others.97751/ by @Mindmasterxd to be added into the guide index? Looks to be lots of useful items and info all on the same post in case anyone is looking for it in the future

Edit:
Also potentially mention this one alongside the other farming guide, since it is concise and up to date (i presume) https://xpoff.com/threads/ultimate-boe-twink-item-farming-guide-legion-bfa.97468/

And also the amazing and comprehensive one for all 20's items farming https://xpoff.com/threads/level-20-shadowlands-twink-boe-farmers-guide-compendium.97763/

Just to help out newbies who read this before posting so they can Ctrl+F and find them easy :)

Got it updated!

New to twinking and looking for guidance

I will be using a VET account and starting with a sub to stock up on enchants, mats, bags, bank slots, etc. After sub expires I plan on being unsubbed until Dragonflight.

Question time.

Before I spend a bunch of time on this, could gear etc. change with the launch of Dragonflight? I would hate to grind a ton just to have to start over at launch. Is it smarter to just wait and play my mains for now?

How close are rogue specs DPS wise? Is it worth rolling the best spec, or can I just play what’s most fun and still be good? I’m looking to get as many kills as I can in random BG’s.

I saw on this forum that a few classes have dedicated guides. Sadly, rogue isn’t one of them. Where can I get the best current info for stat priority, BIS gear per spec, and things like that?

Could I find a good player in a set spec and just copy their gear setup? If so, who are some of the better geared rogues out there? Do I copy from the highest ilvl characters, highest honorable kills, or based on stats?

I have seen talk about grandfathered ilvl 28 gear. Is that grandfathered to the players who currently have the gear, or can vet accounts still acquire it? I know F2P accounts can’t get it.

For vets is there a certain smart order to gearing? Example: First get all bis items from dungeons, then rares, then quests, then finish with mobs for boe items.

In the same sense, is there a smart order to professions? What ones should I start with, which ones should I have together, and which ones should be my final ones that I keep?

As someone new to twinking this is all a little daunting. Im sure some of my questions are facepalm worthy and some are probably answered in a guide somewhere but there is a crap load of forums and each one has 20+ pages and a man can only read so much before being overwhelmed with all the random information. I am genuinely interested in twinking and want to make sure I’m doing this right and not wasting my time making mistakes. I appreciate any and all help you guys can give me. I look forward to joining this amazing community, and I hope to see you guys out in BG’s.

Possible but unlikely. The "gearing meta" (as it were) is sockets > all and TBC gear just provides the most sockets. Should gems get nerfed, I suppose some things change in that regard but fundamentally ilvl 28s and triple socket pieces are still great.

just play whats fun. nobody is here to be a sweaty dick about you playing some suboptimal spec. That said, rogues a rough class to pick for your stated goal. but if you find it fun, thats what matters. Rogue gets REALLY good in DF, so theres that.

The armory thread linked in the OP of this thread

"good" relies a lot on what you consider good, and what environment youre playing in. Some of the better rogues in the bracket (people like Visual) arent exactly going out and maxing KBs in a random BG, which is your stated goal. But yea, look at the rogues in the armory thread to get a good idea of how people are building.

I have seen talk about grandfathered ilvl 28 gear. Is that grandfathered to the players who currently have the gear, or can vet accounts still acquire it? I know F2P accounts can’t get it.
GF'd only for F2P, not vets.

While you have a sub, commit to gathering all your gems, enchants, consumes and ilvl 28 gear from AH and farming. Level a 24 or 25 farming toon (druids, hunters, monks) and spend your month joining farming groups to farm up the gear if your local AH is dry. BIS items from dungeons can be done without a sub, so thats low priority during your time with a sub.

In the same sense, is there a smart order to professions? What ones should I start with, which ones should I have together, and which ones should be my final ones that I keep?
if youre just going random BGs and youre a vet, dont worry about cycling profs. Just level vanilla alchemy to 300 and make the alchemists flask, then level northrend engineering for the frag bomb belt tinker and make a bunch of cobalt frag bombs too. Rogues seem to have a lot of fun stunlocking people into double bomb combos.

yea, some were and yes some are. But I'm sympathetic to how overwhelming this all is and if you're gonna ask beginner questions, this is the thread to do it!

Major changes seem unlikely. With the exceptions of trinkets and weapons unless they do something very radical like remove sockets from TBC gear.

Rogues arent the best for dps, its more of a setup cc class.

Yes you could do that.

Those are blue world drop items. You can still buy that on the auction house but its very difficult to find.

Not really, in general id say if youre starting the toon while unsubbed, do dungeons and stuff first. If starting unsubbed Id do dungeons last so Id have greens and flask etc so Id be strong enough to solo the bosses for double legacy loot.

You only have to do that as an f2p as vet just go alch engi for bgs. If you wanna do arenas do inscription, if you want to do both, go alch engi and stack a few thousand northerend flowers and drop alch whenever you want, takes about 75 northerend flowers to level inscription to 25.

@Chops, I'm not sure if professions are enabled in alpha, but given that professions are getting completely revamped, do you think enchants (both profession and consumable enchants) and engineering tinkers currently available become unavailable with Dragonflight?

Thats on my list of things to look on alpha. But given that there's no character copy right now, and its *basically* F2P profession grinding without a 60 to carry... not something I'm gonna get gungho about.

but i did look at several professions via the "unlearned" tabs and so far nothing looks so different from live that I've noticed.

but again! a lot of this stuff has pvp modifiers and getting low level pvp on alpha is... well, unless you know 3 other twinks with alpha who wanna proc the que, its impossible.

Outlaw stacked with agi/stam gems might be an easy pick for starter in df
