[NA] Guild Ranking TBC 19s

Exciting game tonight by GLHF and b t n e. GLHF took the game 3-1, but was unable to continue for a game 2. Since both teams are same faction, they would need to play 2 games for a set. GLHF forfeits game 2, meaning b t n e will take the set. It's unfortunate, but I wanted this rule in place to prevent teams from winning 1 game on favored side of field and calling it there. Fortunately, these teams will play each other again this Sunday, November 7th at 9EST. GLHF will have the chance to reclaim the top spot.

On a side note, I am considering amending this rule to make it so if the team winning on the UNFAVORED side wins game 1, it can be a 1 game set. But in tonight's case, GLHF won on the favored side, so it wouldn't apply in this scenario.

So them not playing g2 last week has no effect? We agreed to play 1 game last night beforehand, that was essentially g2 from the week before when they only played horde base. Your system is flawed af when a team loses twice 3-1 and remains on top.

It did have an effect. They lost the last set. They didn’t “remain” on top. You guys were on top after your last match up. Beat them and you retake the top spot in your next showing. The system corrects itself by playing games. I agree it’s not a good feeling to lose it this way, but the map just straight up isn’t 1:1 and there has to be some way to try and account for it in same faction match ups that isn’t abusable.

last night was g2 from the previous week when THEY couldn’t play a 2nd game. You should ask pizza and LD. Your system would discourage certain people from playing any games at all if only 1 game could be played. Luckily that’s not us and we just wanna play. Regardless you have a team ranked 1 that lost twice in a row… your system is broken.

I think everyone needs to understand that these rankings are a mechanism for promoting activity for 19 wargames. I do think Hairy shouldn't update rankings until both GM's confirm a "fair" series has been completed (fair series = each team plays 1 side of map) no matter if it happens on one day or not.

Hairy is a voluntary one man show with these rankings and streaming almost all wargames. Players make mistakes all the time in gulch and are allowed to improve, we should allow Hairy to do the same :)

Thx again for streaming the wargames @HairyTreeMan - it greatly improves the viewing pleasure for those not playing and offers a unique perspective for those that did play to go back and review. Piggy backing on what @Lifedrain said, when moments like the "knifecombobcap" happen and there is a caster to react in real time makes the moment even more hype :HYPERKEKW:

I’ve haven’t been fully content with this rule for some time now and the last few wargames made that even more urgent in my thoughts. I’m still trying to decide on an alternative for the future. I don’t want a system that discourages only 1 game, but I also don’t want to encourage playing 1 game and then calling it. Ideally I wanted this to be a system that updates every time a team plays so I don’t have to track multiple teams only playing 1 game vs another and game 2 never happening, or happening 2 months later. In doing these sets in 1 day, the ranking won’t be 100% accurate to true skill at times due to forfeits. If the lower ranked team is truly better, the system will correct itself when they play again.

Key points:
1) I am looking to revise/improve the same faction sets
2) The goal here is to promote activity
3) My motives here aren’t malicious or to favor any teams over others

but I also don’t want to encourage playing 1 game and then calling it.
So why not just make it so that the opposing guild has to file a complaint that game 2 was dodge in order for you to update the rankings. The filing is just a formality in the sense that you update as long as there is evidence game 2 didn't happen (which is very easy to prove) but allows guilds to set up bo1s in good faith if they have a relationship in which they know more games will be played.

<GLHF> hasn't premaded in months, <something dope> about to take #1 spot & is looking for challengers
