Final Fantasy 14 Free Trial (F2P/FT) Experience

Dragpz

Grandfathered
Finally got around to finishing up my Free Trial account for FFXIV and hit 60 + the end of the Heavensward (1st Expac). I will have to say that it is quite a different experience, coming from WoW. FF14 is definitely a game you have to take at your own pace to truly enjoy. You can rush to endgame, but with the Main Story Questline (which unlocks everything), taking up to 150-200 hours of playtime, you will likely burn out pretty quickly if you try to rush through it all.

That said, here are some of the cons of the FF14 FT experience:
  • No PVP - PVP for Free Trial characters was removed as of Feb 2021, due to bots and hackers.
  • No "Twinking" - Everything is scaled down to your level/item level, so twinking isn't really a thing in this game.
  • Heavy Focus on the Main Story - You'll have to clear the main story before you can do almost anything else.

And here are the positives:
  • A More Complete "Free" experience - You have 100% access to zones and quests up to the first expansion (Heavensward). Max level is 60 as Free Trial, 80 as P2P.
  • Access to Global Chat/Novice Network - You have to ask in /say chat, but as a Free player, you get access to the Global Chat in FFXIV.
  • Free Server Travel (Data Center Travel(?)) - You can travel to any server in your Data Center for free. The only things server-specific are Public Player Housing and Guilds, and you don't have access to either as FT. Traveling between Data Centers is currently being planned.
  • Lots of collectible mounts/emotes/transmogs and events- There's a lot of content for mount and achievement collectors. As well as large events, which offer unique rewards, meaning lots of subbed players participate as well.
  • Access to interesting Dungeons and Raids - You get full access to the dungeon and raids up to the first expansion, and they all have unique/interesting mechanics.

Aside from that, there are also the typical chat and marketplace/marketboard restrictions found in WoW. The Free Trial community is alot smaller than WoW's for sure, but there are a still few dedicated players that write guides about the limits and what you can achieve on the Free Trial. It definitely will take a while to get used to and learn, especially if you're coming from 10+ years of WoW, but FF14 is definitely a more laid back, PVE-focused experience, and if you don't mind giving up PVP, is a viable alternative for a F2P MMO experience.

You're missing the best part!!

FF XIV has the most satisfying crafting system of any game I've ever played : ) Coupled with the short but sweet quest lines that go with it, it was positively my favorite aspect of the game!

True, the crafting and job system in this game were pretty good, and the fact that there are class quests for both Crafting AND regular Classes made it even better. It's also great you can also level all the classes on one character, but it kinda kills me as an altoholic. Right now I'm having fun in the Golden Saucer event that's going on. It's great that even as Free character, you can interact and participate in major events that happen in the game. This is a stark contrast from WoW's F2P scene, where everything that happens in the F2P bracket is in it's own bubble pretty much.

Vulperas > Moogles

Moogles aren't playable in this game, but FFXIV has catgirls, dragongirls, bunnygirls, and buffgirls

Im having an absolute blast in the pve scene
Alexander is one of my favourite raids in there and the ability to farm out a relic (equivalent to a legendary?) Weapon as a f2p is great.

Plus theres plenty of enjoyable time wasting things in the game , like professions have their own rotations and skillsets and lmao blue mage is pretty fun if you want to meme and steal OP skills from raid bosses

Kinda shame the pvp is dogshit (and trials cant use it)

Inb4 this forum becomes a ff site lmao

The RNG in the heavensward crafting quests make me cri :(

Vulpera are a large part of the reason I came back to WoW, tbh.

Lmao, me too, when Vulpera came out, I knew it was going to be the meme furry race so I re-subbed just to do 3 weeks of dailies to unlock them. They were the first and only allied race I ever grinded for at current xpac

funny thing is, i only created 1 vulpera character and I don't even play them anymore

Haha. Maybe make another and get back into it? I dunno.

I gotta unlock the Mechagnomes now. I have no clue why, but after hating them initially, I now really like them. "shrugs"

I thought PvP was only disabled as a temporary Solution!? 6 Months of a temporary Solution?!

Anyway, can you give me a link to a Website where those dedicated Players post their Guides? If against the rules of this Board via PM Please?

What makes the pvp in that Game Dogshit from your Point of view?

Its not AS bad , however there is a delay to every ability you cast, takes some time to get used to.
And the primary gamemode is annoying since it has 3 teams and often ends up with 2 teams doubleteaming on the third team.

Your entire ability bar changes, the rotation also changes to multiple single buttons that perform your rotations kind of in order, its very strange. Games just not meant for pvp (but i heard they are reworking it in EW). The PvE story experience far outstrips wow tho.
