BRD Coffer Farming Math

Prepare for hell, fellow twinkers.

Thankfully, a stealthie can do five runs in about 10 minutes (using the logout reset). With almost no effort (it is ridiculously easy at 60 to check coffers solo), you can at least check 55 keys per hour rather quickly (11 per run), so if you have the gold and patience, you will eventually succeed. You should actually see either a necklace or ring every other hour!

The tl;dr behind the math is that a 90%+ chance of obtaining a single perfect piece (remember - you need three for BiS) will run you in the mid thousands of keys for even the most common roll. To obtain all your coffer pieces, prepare for at least a thousand runs and over ten thousand keys.

There were fears of the chest despawning, so I went ahead and verified that the chests behave like every other chest in the game. That means, the following properties are observed:
  • Once opened, a five minute despawn timer starts.
  • The timer starts anew every time the chest is closed, not opened!
  • Leaving the chest open will not pause the timer, it will despawn while open!
As long as the coffer farmer sits at the chest to reset this timer, and others clear to it, there's no risk of losing the item to a despawn.

Every animal roll has an 8/8, 8/9, and 9/8 variant. The calculations are for obtaining a "perfect" item (8/9 or 9/8).

Happy running.

Thanks for this. I need a ring and neck on my enh shaman, so this is good to know. At least my mage doesn't need anything from them. He just gets to live in ST until my eyes bleed for perfect fiery gloves and offhand.

Awesome work! I really appreciate the information. Going to be living in BRD, but I believe my system won't be too painful. Going to run 3 70s to coffer room with 1 being a lock. Check boxes, and if anything good then I will summon my twink to the coffer room. GL on your farm, and may the RNG be with you.

There have been conflicting reports about being able to summon directly into spots in instances in TBC, so I didn't bother risking it. Plus, I don't have a summoner myself yet.

I actually developed a route that a single 60 Mage or Paladin can use to safely clear using Invisibility potions and Rocket Boots. Takes like 20 minutes (two potion CDs), but at least it only requires two accounts (and the clearer/twink can be on the same one). Figured this was the safest path forward, since fishing for the items itself is a trivial effort and actually getting the twink into the room is the hard part.

Hopefully they don't mess with how summoning works. That has been my go to in classic for certain things like eye of org quest. We shall see, but going to try it nonetheless.

Got our first ring and successfully handed it off to a 49 Druid twink using our Mage + Pally route. Cleared some fire packs and the coffer room / area outside of it. Rest was skipped.

Took an hour (including travel time of the entire clearing crew) and we died once (thank god I was able to vanish on the Rogue in time). I can personally confirm with 100% certainty that as long as you keep opening and closing the chest, it never despawns. Now get off your lazy asses, there's no more excuses!

Imperfect, but when you're farming the rarest BoP items in the game, you can't complain about 1 Stamina.

[doublepost=1620013196,1620003465][/doublepost]Got a +5 Concentration necklace, and an 8/8 Monkey Necklace as well today. Sadly didn't go to a twink that needed it.

Saw a perfect Stam necklace today. 49 Druid got it (same one that got the Eagle ring).

Str heavy, but a perfect roll (9/8). Went to a twink that needed it.
