Hey,
What do you think about retri palas in this bracket?
I am thinking about making a tauren or zand.troll. I like both racials.
I may go with tauren with some speed stats.
How haste is important for this class? I know its good for cds and faster heals, but dont know caps.
I really would to try a talasite+crussader+crit+vers combo pal :)
Or vers is not so bis stat?
Any suggestion?

Ret is great! I’ve seen 4 general philosophies when it comes to gearing & talents:

1.) Mastery stacking with Execution Sentence or Righteous Verdict, focused on lining up big ability damage to vaporize priority targets
2.) Haste stacking with Zeal, focused on sustained dps, faster auto attacks, quicker off-heals and “smoother” playstyle with reduced GCD rotation gaps
3.) Versatility stacking with any of the 3 talents, focused on a “tankier” “juggernaut” playstyle, bigger auto attack damage, bigger ability damage (though not as much as Mastery stacking) and bigger heals
4.) Combination of the above, mixing in a healthy balance of Mastery, Haste and/or Vers

First step would be figuring out what type of “play style” you want to go for in a BG...do you want to be patient and line up big one-shot Templars Verdicts + Execution Sentences? Then focus on Mastery. Do you want to be in the heat of battle, swapping targets, filling in with quick off-heals, constant action? Then focus on Haste. Do you want to feel big and tanky with attacks that feel “heavier”, and occasionally dropping huge, slow heals as opposed to quick Haste heals? Then focus on Vers. Etc.

I’d encourage you to get at least some Talasites in your gear, but you definitely don’t have to stack them in every slot - try to find a balance between building up your health pool and having enough Strength & Secondaries to kill healers.

Personally, I started with an Aurora (Haste/Vers) build and ~2.9k HP (armory/out-of-BG). Played BGs a few weeks and decided I don't need as much survivability, and need more ability damage, so currently rebuilding for Feverflare (Haste/Mastery) and dropping some Talasites for +3 Strength gems, which will bring my hp closer to ~2.4k when finished. Basically, give yourself some options to play around with different stats, as once you actually get into BGs you'll find you need more/less in certain areas to match your playstyle.

Crusader definitely a must. Makes it all work. Also, people frequently overlook Sharpening/Weighted weapon stones...Weapon Damage is really important for Ret, and stones are super cheap and easy to make as far as consumables are concerned.

Hope this helps!

Henry you are the Man :)
Thanks a lot, I am little lost about which Way should I go. But this is great!

I've made a full harmonious green set as a ret set for my holy paladin, I hit 500ish without crusader and 900 with all procs, noncrit. The damage isn't as high as a warrior, mage or hunter, but the survivability and 5 sec stun make up for it. Playstyle is all about building 5 holy power and just hoping for crusader, all that lining up means you can kill anything. Overall amazing class, I walk in and usually solo kill 3-4 people with lay on hands being off cooldown, the sustain is probably the best to a lvl 20 dps class. Also the wings pvp talent is lots of fun in bgs, sometimes you get chain wings for like 15 seconds lol.

how much haste are we looking at? im currently running mastery and having no Art of War makes it a little slow

Ultimate retribution still gives the avenging wrath or wrath buff? I mean its a higher lvl spell.

IMO:

Just like Enhance, Ret is sidelined to officially "off-healer bumble fuck class" (especially with the upcoming Hunter buffs). No Art of War is a huge hit to Ret DPS. You are just queuing/hoping for those games where all your kills/damage are not stolen by a Hunter.

Just go gangster with 40% haste/20% verse... if you don't have an i49 you are making a meme build anyway (insert whining), go all in/tits out/ass up/face down/hand stand... 1 second flashes are nice and you can do other things than swing your sword every 10 seconds. Also gets your GCD to a place where weapon swapping does not make you want to kill yourself.

Mastery is rough because Ret gets a horrible return per point. You will just edge out versatility by a few points... and also versatility increases the damage from ALL your damaging abilities... Mastery does not.

You should just stack +2str +2stam gems... or balance out +3str and Talasites if you are elite for the same overall number (to get the extra armor from the talasites).

Every time I see a Ret doing "above and beyond serious shit" in a BG... they have an i49... it's just a sad truth of shadowlands (insert whining).

Ret absolutely stomps survival hunters 1 v 1 if you've stacked haste but if you've stacked mastery it goes south very quickly. I also disagree with the above, if you have stacked haste and have two relics at +7, unless you are rolling your face on your keyboard you are good to go and hardly a meme build without the GF weapons

1) No, you are not soling a geared Survival with a Bramble Staff. If you are using HPower to heal you are doing no dps.. if you are not healing using Hpower you are dead. Without an i49 (possibly a Destiny) to actually hurt them badly fast enough you are just caught in a perfect catch22. This just does not happen in any real situation... maybe you are slapping somebody in heirlooms.

2) The biggest choice is "how lucky are you"... if you believe in luck I would focus more on survival/haste/crusader than I would stacking any amount of strength and just pray for Crusader Procs. I like the survival trinkets: Orb of Torment is one of the few actual ways to survive a Hunter, also Parjesh's Medallion is a treat for when somebody thinks they have you and go all in... then they fail and you stomp them.

Being alive > doing damage.

If you want to see 100ks on the charts just get a pocket healer, or stack all strength and wait till you get to that special game where there are no hunters and you just stomped some puggers and then post it here as if it was "the game of your life and you had to play your heart out".

in your opinion what is your tier list for the 20 bracket? obviously hunters are number one that's not really up for debate but I'd like to hear your opinion

You should play with patience against hunters. As above mention need use holy powers to heal yourself, use stun(s) carefully, injector on belt, use objects to hide if possible, etc.
I think huge boosts are tauren stomp and tailor net. Net can save lifes and games.
But its hard to beat them, but many of them not so geared and skilled.

There is no tier list outside of hunter... that is shadowlands best feature... unfortunately it does not matter because hunters are so OP they just determine wins or losses. If you think there is a tier list (outside of the few unplayable specs)... you are wrong. Almost all specs have their uses and can shine in specific situations. Just because I say things like "off healing bumble fuck spec" does not mean that its not on par with all the other specs that are NOT hunter/not using an i49.

Survival/MM>>>BM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Does not matter.

The only thing that breaks that up are the i49 weapons and the Bramble staff... which have nothing to do with tier/spec/classes. Having an i49 weapon on a Ret makes your play style/ability/effectiveness 100% different than somebody who does not have it... its not just a damage bonus... you are killing things faster, able to deal with massive amounts of leveler/chaff with no regard for death, etc... i49 is exponentially more powerful that other options... not understanding that factor and just thinking its "some more damage" is where a lot of the misunderstanding about the power the i49s have comes from... but, again, that has nothing to do with Ret as a spec.

Disco/Holy priest might have a slight advantage just being goofy... but really they are in the same boat when it comes to hunters.
