Mages are warping the meta.. Is there a counter?

Your Mom

Legend
Simple as that.. Im getting salty at the clearly bads who position horribly.. but can kite no other cause ice armor and panic nova hold their hands... Then they just spam sheep sheep sheep sheep.. for the next 5 minutes and emote laugh.. as it seems diminishing returns does not exist or affect sheep at all in any meaningful way.

Respectable mages like Krut are destroying 3-5 people at once via single frost bolts and pin point fire bolts.. but hes got some new fire build that is super on point. Hits for 1/3 my hp per hit it seems like.

Suffice to say, I believe truly skilled mages do exist.. but like huntard; its become a crutch for the lazy bads.

How do we counter this trend before the meta fully warps to nothing but mage/huntard?

Have a Priest for Dispels with you

Too bad alliance priests are rare due to the number of undead and the high cost.. Horde not so much of an issue.. as we also get shaman.

...and now that I think about it.. my problems are usually with the number of horde mages.. alliance ones are often undergeared and bad.

My shaman usually gets sheep bombed regardless of what I do.. I got some resist gear and always stock resist pots for this reason.. Im looking to set my warrior up with a frost resist shield enchant, rings and stock him up on pots.. And yet I still have trouble with mages literally standing there sheeping me for minutes at a time. I want to point out that Im also technically being a bad.. as I should be near my team in this case.

Not much you can do other than make sure they are hammied and hope the rest of your team kills them. Other than that, just smart play in general. Run the poly trinket.

If you are a warrior you aren't supposed to win that matchup 1v1.

The concern though is that there isnt just 1-2 mages.. Its starting to get as bad as rogues and huntards.. 3-5 mages per match invalidating 1/3 to 1/2 my team.. while they also can slow as many as 2-3 people at once.. and a lot of them are starting to gear fire spell power and hit extremely hard.. Though I admit.. there are only so many skilled/geared ones. However, even a level 10 mage is too ridiculous.. as they can sheep and kite several people at once just the same. Which is too effective, even if they cant kill.

So I guess the answer to my question is: Competent priest dispels + Rogue to burst them down? So it really just comes down to the luck of the draw..

So, I am a bit of a weirdo that plays all classes and tries out specializing in all trees (yes, I run an army of alts).

One of the toons I am actively play is a non-FC druid. I play it as a support class (root and heal).

Rooting mages essentially invalidates their frost nova to your teammates. You can also harass the mage by bear form as well.

As I mentioned recently, druids rooting hunters allow your rogues to easily feast on them.

Non-FC druids are extremely rare but they can be impactful dealing with mages/hunters in a support capacity.

I found it funny when my mage went through 19s that with all the rogues there weren’t more mages. Guess people caught on.

rogues/hunters were always fast, easy, and cheap to twink. also best class to pug in any bracket. also rogues were also fashionable to own, even to current BFA, almost everyone has a good rogue, when showing off on them in goldshire 1 vs 1, or hoping for epeen inspections in SW/ORG, but many main other twinks.

clothees (includes hpal, rdruids predom cloth) were uber expensive to twink in van wow and into BC until when blizz did the patch that turned a lot of dungeon whites and greens into blues. a cloth based twink prior to that patch, with top caster enchants, was around 2800-3500 gold if you had a main. if you wanted ZG and Naxx enchants that could add in the high range up to 6000 gold. rogues and hunters were fine without them. but you take a caster with ZG and Naxx enchants, gamebreaking. the ZG enchant was nerfed upon request of twinks, Naxx will probably also be nerfed to 60+

alot of OG van wow twink video footage was lost when google took their video service down, the ones that made it to youtube started shortly after are gone now too, it's not really a true archival system. there were 19 twink frost mages and aff locks that were severely aggravating, due long CC's back then including rogue saps
