EU Twinking Suicide

In my experience, I rather feel as if recent twinking is digging up a hole for itself, at a rate that's quite rapid. As current endgame content is quite...stale, many players from 120 are joining vets (maybe f2p but what i've seen, mostly vets) which is awesome. But... as current specs such as rshams, rdruids, arcringe mages etc are quite overpowered in the sense of the tools they have or the damage they can throwout, they've been played alot more than other specs, for obvious reasons which leads to...

When a player is new to twinking they usually ask other twinks 'What class should I play', which often leads to those 3 specs I mentioned earlier. 'Want to play a healer? just play a druid or shaman', 'Want to DD? just play a boomy or arcringe mage'. Instead of asking the player to explore all specs at level 20 to find which suits them and which makes them feel most satisfied whilst playing.

Personally I got into feral druid because of sodapoppin, and when I found out what twinking was I mixed my 2 interests together and mained it from pre-patch mop > current. I feel as if people need to find the fire in their hearts, the odd, funky specs that they're weirdly connected to. Whenever I see players such as Belokia or Alphasky, that mostly still plays the spec they found to love by themselves, it reminds me of what twinking USED to be.

Finding unique ways of playing a spec and making it work. Or just simply trying to make mediocre specs incredibly fun and useful.

Ps. There's nothing wrong with maining fotm, simply trying to get players out of their shells that other twinks guided them to.:p

Theyre called FoTM for a reason. People will continually pick the flavor of the month if its the best at that moment. Theres people who play the bracket daily and dont have a character with more than 5 days played because “this class is broken watch me pump”. It wont change sadly, just play to have fun dont worry about winning or losing. You’ll enjoy the game alot more

That's something I can understand ofc, although i'm confused for why you assumed I'd made this for purposes that effect me (winning or losing). The post was made to show that players that it's okay playing w/e you want which leads to a better state of twinking that it is right now

Being FOTM can also be accidental. I've a few Twinks, but I like Resto-Druid as it includes bits I liked playing from my rogues (Stealth) & paladins/ monks (Healing) but a down side is I end up needing to Flag Carry, so I've tried to do this as best I can despite it being hard to master.

I'm a Vet because it seems to be the same as I was doing in end game (can't remember how long ago I was playing endgame content) without the IRL cost & never-ending (rather just occasional) need to chase new gear. It's a challenge getting the most out of something so restricted & either a few days free game time or £10 thrown at it if there's something I particularity want to get using a high level alt adds some variety.

So I like to think whilst I may have a potentially overpowered FOTM FC, I bring balance to the universe by being a bit crap even so.

The abuse I get from try-hards in, what is after all only, a game is the icing on the cake.

Just my two cents.

Edit: Can't edit this to stop it all being a quote - weird...

Can you blame people from playing classes that are actually effective?
Some classes/specs are just so bad that in order to perform equally to the better ones you need to put in 500% more effort, or need the people playing the braindead specs to be really bad.

That doesn't even include people who play the good specs because... they like the specs. Just like fiveSpice said.

Besides a lot of specs at level 20 feels so incomplete so while you might enjoy the spec at a higher level, you can't get to play it at 20 because you're missing some important tools.

You just get into the various motivations for playing twinks.

Some people really like a specific brackets feel and pace and want to play in that bracket competitively. So they play the strongest classes in that bracket. And as the bracket meta shifts, so too do their classes. Some people really just like a certain class and will play it in one bracket or several. Other people like having a single project twink.

ymmv.

I'd been 'feeling' the game losing it's lustre for a while now, having been around since 2007. I originally found my niche as a BM Hunter for a few years, then switched to Mutilate Rogue; where I rolled a 69 twink for years, for the love of Outlands and TBC. Since hitting 120 on a few mains, I returned to twinking as a VET, since Blizz destroyed all other twink brackets (Blizzard, you kinda suck on that point). Level 20 is the only viable twink bracket, and I truly despise being forced into cookie cutter races/specs to be competitive. So, anyway, I love the game, and twinking is how I am rolling now; currently building a SUB Rogue for when my next subscription ends on this August 19th. I may be choosing a tier 2 spec, as Outlaw is the only viable Rogue spec, but Mutilate is truly worthless, and was always my first choice; SUB is my 2nd choice. I refuse to roll Outlaw as a matter of principle and pride.

Fotm is end game players coming to the 20s twink brackets because they ain’t shit #Nomorenewtwinks #endgameplayerarentwelcome #jokingbutnotjoking.
Oh, you're the type of WoW player I put on /ignore in-game. Here on the Forum, I'll give you 2 cents: My 120 Rogue is ilvl 465 and I am completely burnt on endgame. PvP at 120 is a sheetshow. I LOVE twinking. Vetting and f2p are our only options to twink. Not much thought required, and certainly no failing at endgame is necessary, to choose a path in WoW that works for my playstyle.

Single-project Twink :)

Today’s community is totally different then it was back then, you can’t expect people to not play fotm anymore. You don’t have many true level capped players left, just people copying everyone else and doing 0 work for themselves required to find a spec they would like.

Depressing.

Looking at population numbers, especially between retail and classic, let alone the bustling EU vs the sinking US populations; and given the competition of other mmo games pulling players away from WoW; add to this the sinking 120 population and growing f2p crowd... do some math, and trust Blizzard is doing the same... problem, solution... merge servers? Merger retail and classic in a sweeping re-set?

what are you talking about?

Finding unique ways of playing a spec and making it work.

Like useing saltwater with beserk on a fc with 5 stacks. Ye that helps.

Jokes aside.

I totally agree, would love to have more colourful games. At times the bracket is super frustrating and full of consumes and fotms. But to be fair there is a big handful of good specs and strong classes and I think we are pretty lucky with what we have right now, super active. Imo winlogging and consumes is a bigger issue. Guiding new players to play what they want and tell them about all the nice specs out there is a great idea!

Thanks for the post.

We actively try to do this in our guild. It's hard to convince people not to min/max everything and get a little experimental. One of the problems we run in to is people dont want to feel useless. "hey man, aff lock sounds fun but i feel like its holding the group back" is a pretty common theme. It takes a lot to convince people that really, no, its fine and then they end up just rolling an arcane mage after a few weeks anyway. The pull of fotm is real.

I try to do this too. I've had many conversations with people either asking what to play/log onto for a small premade/what to roll next and the confusion after the answer is always "whatever you find fun" is priceless.

The biggest issue I've found killing the bracket is the people rolling full fotm premades either without the opposing faction being on, or doing this and requiring the other side to do the same just to compete. It kills queues and generally requires everyone to premade. Maybe you get a great game if both teams run their best groups, but for any scenario besides that it's a boring face roll with no chance for the other team to do anything.

The people that main fotm never stick around too long either. They reroll, get bored and do something else, or outright quit. It really lacks the longevity/drive of being the underdog.

Aye that's something I should of took into consideration when making the post, good point Choppy.

... you can play a lame dps, spammy healer, or you can play as a

but all jokes aside, i just find it fun playing a non-fotm and stopping the opposing faction with them. kind of like the one time i popularized arm warriors against bm hunters the one season (i think it was during either mop or wod, I forget which).

It's funny, as I read this thread, I realize I'm the weirdo. I made a mage a long time ago, not knowing it was FOTM, let alone that I was supposed to be just spamming missles. I was out there having fun actually using Arcane Blast. Then I came here for some reason, saw that Arcane was OP if you spammed missles, and I lost my motivation to play.
