PTR Our own Shadowlands Alpha Q&A

Hey guys, i was wondering what the new twink level is going to be and also if there are things that might be obtainable now.. and will be unobtainable after shadowlands.. but will remain BIS.... or will every piece of gear be replaced? I just want to be sure to not miss anything.. cheers!
I highly doubt anything from right now will be BiS in SL once you have access to a shit load more Dungeons, Quests and possibly Raids (for low-er Level Twinks).

To answer that question, we need to make an assumption that brackets will continue to be 10-19, 20-29, etc. It's likely that they will continue this way, but no guarantees. It's also likely that with the continuation of segregation of XP-on and XP-off queues, F2Ps and expansion-capped 50s will be the only active twinks to speak of.

With all of that said, if 19s ever plan to return in SL and beyond, I found three items that could potentially become grandfathered for 19s:

The Blade of Eternal Darkness makes for arguably one of the best twink caster weapons in the game. Dropping out of Maraudon, the instance is currently available to characters in their 30s and above, and will very likely remain out of reach of SL 19s once the SL prepatch lands.

From a quest item that drops in Ferales, the Chain Link Towel remains a BiS overstatted caster reward for 39s even if the quest doesn't proc rare or epic. It's very possible that when the SL prepatch lands, the downscaled version will still outdo any possible dungeon drops at 19, and the quest will stay out of reach of SL 19s.

Gwenyth's Wristguards see the same situation (the quest offers leather and mail variations for both factions). They're so good even without a rare or epic proc, they took BiS for 39s, 49s, and 59s in BfA. A product of a long questline in the Hinterlands, only a socketed wrist could compete...except none of the new dungeons coming for 19s offer a socketed wrist option for leather or mail wearers.

There may be more; these three items stood out as well-known pieces from the 39 bracket. If you want to dig for more possibly grandfathered treasure, check out the old 39s BfA BiS Handbook and see what you can find. Note that BoE items with procs often saw the procs not actually work at lower levels.

Thanks for your information!

Do mob specific gear still proc rate or epic btw after SL?
[doublepost=1595154758,1595154183][/doublepost]Its going to be so cool ^_^.. im thinking to probably go lvl 19... or perhaps 10.... depends.... im so sad mountless BG womt be a thing anymore.... and rly.hoping blizz will give.us a lvl 9 BG... to keep the lvl 19 spirit.. which were wows first twinks ever alive.

There’s a possibility that the BiS will be the following but probably needs some confirmation about it.

the necklace from BFA, since that upgrades constantly until the first maximum amount or until the next fetch upgrade quest from Magni.

the helm, shoulder, and chest that is linked to the bfa necklace. Since you get some nice bonuses from those abilities. Ex: shield, heal, and damage buffs for every so-and-so.

legion weapon will probably be the main weapon for first choice of spec. like the bfa necklace, it too upgrades. I don’t know if we’ll get all of them so choose wisely.

might get 1-2 legion legendary items there as well but, we’ll probably need to test which ones work.

and the rest we’ll probably get from tbc with socketed items.

tldr, we’ll all probably be 110 bis but upgraded.

after reading eleannor's post below, i'd think i'll just leave this post up still. considering that we still don't know what the outcome will be and we'll probably need some testing during SL to see what will be the meta then.

to be fair though, i just looking at some of the notes thus far and lead to the conclusion that this might be bis, but then again we don't know what will happen until the events unfold when SL finally drops.

I have not got a upgraded drop so far, but I'm not looking for them. Anyone know one that is quick to get, just so I can test that out?

Legion crafted leveling blues can go epic and they can also 1 stat roll. Epic savant gear (full mastery) would be cool to see at 10 or whatever. Let me know if that’s a thing lol

I) What is the "Relics of the Past" system?
Relics of the Past ("RotP") are a new optional reagent that can be added before crafting some items to change their minimum level requirements and item level.

II) How I know which level the crafted item would be?

There's five different RotPs, each one with a different rank ("Relic of Past I to V"). Whenever you use a specific rank, the crafted item would be of the rank's level like this:

  • Rank I - Requires level 15 to use / Has an item level of 23;
  • Rank II - lvl 25 / ilvl 33;
  • Rank III - lvl 35 / ilvl 43;
  • Rank IV - lvl 45 / ilvl 56;
  • Rank V - lvl 50 / ilvl 100.
III) How can I get RotPs?
Right now, at least some professions (Blacksmithing, Tailoring and Leatherworking) can craft them, but I believe most professions will use them (like Engineering and Jewelcrafting).

You can create the same Rank in different ways, by using various expasions materials (Ex. A Rank 1 RotPS is craftable by using Linen Cloth or Embersilk).

IV) Which items are affected by RotPs and are they affected in the same way?
Right now, it's all completely arbitrary and/or bugged. Overall, only green and some blue items can receive RotP, but most of them don't accept all 5 ranks (meaning that some of those items wouldn't be usuable by a lvl 15, for example).
[Image 1 & Image 2]

V) How do you think this system can impact low lvl PvP?
If item effects don't get disabled in instanced PvP, this could greatly facilitated the gearing process and give acess to powerful items that would otherwise be usuable only in a non active bracket.

I am talking about things like rings and necklaces with sockets before TBC, Vanilla weapons with interesting effects like crazy stuns, and profession-specific trinkets.

[doublepost=1595197904][/doublepost]Anyway, some quick thoughts about BiS gear in Shadowlands:
  • 1. There's a small chance some BiS could come by farming random green drops in BfA zones, as they can roll with any stats and have a socket;
  • 2. Artifacts might not be BiS, due to having other potential crafted or dropped items with effects and / or sockets (https://www.wowhead.com/item=27901/blackout-truncheon);
  • 2-B. A possible scenario would be if Legion Dungeons dropped titanforged Relics that increased the Artifact ilvl way over potentially titanforged BfA dungeons weapons (considering effects or sockets on other weapons are inferior).
  • 3. I believe 50's twinking will be a fucking arms race, with plentyful of options to gear, due to acess to all zones and dungeons + updated crafted items;
  • 4. Can't confirm the level required to obtain the Heart of Azeroth, as the introdutory quest doesn't seem bounded to initiating questing in BfA.
  • 5. Legion's Legendaries will likely have no impact, since all of them currently have their effects disabled and require level 40. The crafted ones are disabled as well, but have different required levels.

can someone check, how gfd enchants like 12agi cloak 13ap/12ap Hands/wrist 13sp wrist 43sp weapon scale ?

Can you link them on Wowhead? I can log on a lvl 10 and see how the tooltip changes when I see it.

its confirmed theyll let f2p make DK and DH ?
we're not gonna be able to confirm anything re: F2P in beta. There's no way to know what is locked behind a sub because they dont give beta keys to inactive subs.

But DH and DK will be available under level 10, so we can at least assume theyll be available to vets.

I’ve known multiple people get BFA beta without a sub
