Yes they talked about this ever since shadowlands was revealed. It's a huge thing for the endgame community. But it's only gonna be good if the PvP gear is actually the best gear for PvP, else it won't change the "having to PvE to PvP" part of the game, which is what PvP'ers generally want to avoid.
They're also gonna remove all the rng extras on PvE gear afaik. Titanforging, sockets, extra stats. And tier sets are returning as well. Spells are being un-pruned etc. Overall it's looking good, but I'm never getting my hopes up again for Blizzard. Even Legion turned out super sick in the beginning, then LMAO JK EVERYTHING WENT TO SHIT . BFA had ones hopes up as well then JK CORRUPTED GEAR RNG, FORCED PVE, FORCED CHORES.
I just wanna log in, play, log out. Let there be content out there, but let it be optional. Nerds can spam shit PvE, dailies and world quests if they want. Don't force it.

Yea there was an interview with Ian Hostesskisses (whatever) where he said quest reward upgrades would be tertiary stats but that’s itA few weeks ago I asked an Alpha streamer about quest gear upgrading and he said he received one that rolled leech and a socket. Might have changed since then though.

As a fan of WPvP, I liked how the gearing system worked in WoD. Best PvP gear was obtained via PvP and the PvP/ilevel would only activate if you were doing a PvP activity. If you used PvP gear for PvE purposes, then the ilevel was reduced.
Nothing was wrong with the vendors and the currency back then. I also liked the conquest catch-up mechanic. Once you geared out one toon, you could do it again on an alt and not be terribly far behind.
Once Legion hit with the gearing changes, I just lost a lot of interest in retail.
On paper, Shadowland changes sound good. The first couple of months of any expansion is usually a lot of fun. If they come through with a legit PvP gearing system, I might play beyond the two months (though, I'll definitely still be playing Classic and TBC).

i can’t tell you how hyped i am to play through those raids again. Sure, BT and Hyjal won’t be exactly the same but they were so fun, i can’t imagine it being much of a letdown to do them againTBC sounds hype, ngl. I loved TBC for the endgame, but it's not gonna be the same as it used to be obv.

TBC was the first (and only) xpac that i took endgame seriously and id be lying if i said i wasn’t nostalgic to revisit that content. Not real stoked on current endgame (but I’m also not terribly familiar with the higher edge of it any more) so id enjoy dipping back in time a bit.The PvE for me is gonna be so-so. I think retail is the place to be for PvE'ers. The evolution of PvE hasn't been too bad.
i had forgotten but oooooofTalking about tbc. Remember wotlk prepatch ret paladins?
WoD gearing was great. Id love to see em go back to that, no legendaries and pve necks etc.
Yeah. Wod was lackluster in content but the gameplay and gearing was solid. I also loved the free wargames-specific gear you could get if you weren't fully geared out.

I agree. Honor gear was so easy to get from Ashran and the in-pvp item lvl difference from Honor to Domination gear wasn't that great.
I'd argue that this combination made WoD's PvP more accessible than Legion's, while maintaining character builds etc.
Funny thing is that they didn't like how the PvP scaling in MoP and WoD, because it confused the players. But the scaling from BfA is a thousand miles more obtuse and unclear - everything you want to avoid in competitive modes.
