I concur, this is the most optimal way to farm AP relative to the time required.
If you have plenty of time, then you can spam IEs but I strongly advise againt it - you will likely burn out.
Mechagon rares also drop 100 per kill per day, so that's also something you could do after exhausting the Uldum rares.

My personal take on it is to treat it like a marathon, not a sprint.
Try to use the mission table daily, more than once even. Just a reminder that you can do this in <30 seconds using your phone app. You can maximise that too by using follower equipment to increase success chance or bring back bonus AP (the latter of which hasn't proved too worthwhile imo).
Try to hit one Faction Assault per day too (https://wow.gameinfo.io/bfa-invasions is a nice bookmark to check for it). The faction Assault is 4-5 WQs which can be up to 200-350AP each, before WM bonus (of course its possible that none reward AP). These WQs are also a good source of War Resources to keep your mission table going. You can also use the elite WQs to autojoin groups, shard hopping for the fixed locations for the Secret Supply Cache, which has more AP and a guaranteed item inside.
I personally do throw the occasional IE in if I'm in the mood as sometimes I don't mind them on my DH. I've done a Mechagon tour twice and an Uldum once (only about 3 rares) and personally that is getting way too close to grindy/burnout for me. I don't want to play my 111 as my main, I just want to have a competitive neck. I'm 99% targeted toward being a speed twink, so where I'm at the stage where I'm doing all this effort just for 1 ilvl on my neck and 2 points of mastery...I remind myself how silly that is xD

Holy crap!!! I didn't think I'd say this but I'm pretty jealous of someone's 119s. And those 119s being yours. Your rogue with that sexy chest piece. I really freakin wish we still had access to higher ilvl az gear. But I guess 405s later this year from event will suffice if I'm lucky. And maybe Shadowlands will throw us a bone. I'm already confident that we'll have access to some really strong Gems and possible enchants as SL progresses.
It brings up the ilvl of necklace. That's why people are grinding it mostly.

Cheers Tom, I'm glad that super long event was a one-off at least any future ones will only be 2 weeks long, love seeing other 119's too, yours look great. My rogue got really lucky, even 2 x 388 outlaw weapons.
I wonder for next years that lands at the start of November, I wonder what good it will be for our 119's (or whatever level we end up after pre-patch). Perhaps the best value from the next anniversary will be just below the next level cap.

I find the neck at around 350 starts to be better than the 388 level necks, so deffo worth levelling since 410 or so is easily done in 8.3.
Also dont forget not every armour class had drops from those anniversary bosses, I know plate head was never on the loot table so your going to have a azerite plate head + a few other slots iirc.

if your necklace is like lvl70 or lvl80 .. its really powerful .. i just started, so the shoulder and chest pieces are useless compare with the 388s .. but once the necklace is really high, i believe the stats will be in favour of the az pieces

i think from past years, when all expac releases, the last 2 lvls from the previous expac gets good stuff, so lvl118 and lvl119 should be able to get things from SL, if that is the assumption

BFA didn't for 109s, sadly. Neither did Wod for 89s I don't think.
If there is good stuff, I hope it's around the 350-380 ilvl, and not too much higher. Yeah I'm all for powerful gear, but it would be dumb to replace my 388-405 anniversary gear with greens and blues lol. I'd mostly like it if we got some good trinket options and replacement for anything that isn't anniversary gear or AZ neck. Also hoping they add in some good archeology rewards. But doubtful for anything below 120 (soon to be 50)

I was 111 at the time, not sure if it's required. I just flew there, no quest was available to me.
In any case, Mechagon rares are old news. Uldum rares it where you want to go, these days.

are those 119s with almost full 378/388 gears capable of solo taking on uldum rares ?

Some of them I would imagine yes, others aren't really soloable. Some of the rare elites hurt a lot - I could solo most Mechagon rares as bear, but those in Uldum would literally 1 shot me out of bear form, and 2-3 shot me in bear. Admittedly I'm 111 only, but this is just for comparison.
That's not really an issue though, all you need to do is post "so-and-so is up @xx,yy coords" and you get help almost instantly. I would also consider WM OFF so you don't have to deal with cross-faction tagging.
