EU+US The insidious influence of Shadowlands™...

Has the proposed leveling-redesign of Shadowlands™ altered any of the plans for your F2P characters?

  • YES - I'm now avoiding the remainder of this expansion, in case Shadowlands™ negates any effort.

I'm excited for a change and more things to do/work towards. One of the most fun times is at the start of a major new xpac when it's the wild west of everyone trying out new gear or specs or classes.

I remember ages ago when they first announced the new level scaling and overhaul (before shadow lands was even announced) they said that items already obtained wouldn't scale down with you (items obtained after would). I really hope that's not the case because it would create a huge gap between old and new characters. It's worth putting this out there because blizzard is lazy at coding.

At the end of the day as long as I'm still able to log in and queue for a match or run a dungeon I'll be content.

I'm stubbornly attached to my idea of how it's all gonna shake out (not much will change, f2p might end up with "official" access to gnomer/SM and maybe some more quest zones, or we might lose some things at the margins like BFD and stonetalon)

But what I don't have any idea about is how they'll treat pvp. There's some speculation that korraks was a test drive for a 10-50 or 10-59 bracket. Which I 100% could see happening. In which case I feel like the focus should be on getting on that honor level/BG gear grind. Because it could very quickly get miserable for f2p toons.

there are very few things I am sure of but I'd put money on it that f2p doesn't go all the way to 20.

Their trial island thing indicates that they're completely redesigning the starter experience and the fact that it stops at level 10 means starter/vet accounts will stop at level ten.
I totally agree, there is no way Blizzard will give away 6 expansions of content including quests and dungeons to FTPs, because the scaling of the zones would have to allow it. The intro zone will be just that
"welcome to the game, with a small fee you can have more just like this" for new and unsubscribed players. There will be a pay wall, and since i'm a betting man, it will be to get off the island and taking Chromie's quest.

aren't these the same thing
Given how terrible this site's Poll-Editor is (you can only see a few words of each option as you add them, you cant "preview" the poll before you post it, you can't delete an option after you post it, etc.), and how many times I was interrupted while typing all of it at work... I'm actually kinda' "grateful" that my second-biggest-mistake was merely duplicating the least-likely option! ;)

That definitely won't be the case. One, Blizz has already shown with item level squishes that they are capable of adjusting item levels. Two, do you really think they would squish every 120 to 50, yet leave all their gear at a higher, unequippable level? The entire playerbase would have Blizzard's heads.

When we get squished, your already obtained items will squish with you.

You sir are forgetting about the old pre level adjusting gear/upgrade gear that was never changed with the new system. I'm not saying that the gear would be unequippable, im saying that certain old items may fly under the radar and not get touched, making them beyond op. These are quest rewards and do not have an attached level requirement (like old old level 10s with their gf'd gear, I think a few have ilvl 32 emils as well if im remembering right).

I hope people held onto their old quest gear.

Your poll has good points @Sin'dor . Illuminati part was great :) Before every big expansion release we've talked what to do for years. Should we complete all quests? Collecting signiture items like Stockade quests? Keeping or deleting items etc...

I think best way to avoid this chaos is rolling a fresh char with same class of your main. Just ding 20 and don't touch anything till expansion hits. Collect everything with main and keep other one 'virgin' for backup.

Ah I gotcha. I misunderstood what you were saying. I took it to mean the gear would literally be un-equipable. But yes I agree with you. There almost certainly will be items that fly under the radar.

That whole thing where they explained that existing accounts would have more freedom than accounts started after shadowlands gives me hope
