The return of the throw away toons? Options now that XP-off have a separate queue.

What happens next? Like many of you I have been playing WOW since 2005, I have seen many changes and due to competition WOW isn't as big as it used to be but it is still massive.

There was a time when throw-away toons were fun, using heirloom gear + enchants and consumables you could overpower a toon. With some races starting at lvl 20 this could be one approach. Problem is XP gain from won Battle Grounds is considerable. Keep the toon out of cities to get the most out of it.

The 120 bracket is of course more appealing now as is world PVP, ultimately time and effort spent on Twinking can be allocated to end game instead.

Biggest issue is of course queue times as an XP off, you can't play a game that you can't play and to play 3 bg's in an evening and sit and wait for 30 min each time is non-sensical.

Eventually once the Kul-Tiran & Zandalaris are leveled the brackets will also have long queue times as there will be less levelers - this feels like a consolation and also a shred of hope that they may merge us again. What Twinks offered levelers was an ongoing supply of battleground pops - Then again we also offered GY camping ... so not sure about this.

Ultimately I think for people that want to twink and simply enjoy a particular bracket due to a simpler playstyle war games/ agreed times and a merging of 19's & 29's to have more people to play against. If 3 brackets merge we may have enough to have regular pops.

What's your game plan? For me, I think I'm just going to enjoy alting a bit while queues are fast in the XP on bracket and then move onto end game for a while.

People forget or may not have the skill to take advantage of twinks capabilities in World PvP situation. I am having a blast all the same with mine because it is one of my first loves before stomping kids in BGs. I like going after big fish or small fish. My ele shaman was on a lovely rampage from Argus to The broken Isles. I got almost 10 120s, and can have fun with twinks in World PvP and PvE instances just fine.

Game plan...
If I want to play lowbies with a reasonable queue time I may have to just wait until Classic rolls around.

Well I am glad to say that I had a good time for the most part with my new throw away warlock. Chanted some white gear for the initial 15 or so levels, and leveled up to 19 in the BGs over a few hours. The BG queues where the only problem at 20-45 min for XP on. But it looks like everybody is playing the new content and not pvping so much. The BGs were as balanced as I'd ever seen them with the main imbalance being experience. There were a few twinks in the games which made this tough, but I guess that's my karma.

Some things I did for the toon:
Chant boot with speed, and bracer and glove (all level 5 non-BOE stuff I got in from the Goldshire armor merchant). These will be recycled for the next toon and are to speed leveling to 10
Made sure all my BOAs were properly enchanted
Bought some elixirs, wisdom and swiftness potion
Didn't bother with any professions
Bought organic discombulator bombs for sheeping fun, and some gliders
Added 16 slot bags
During wait, bought AH greens for when I level up and chanted them, stocked up on cheaper chants for greens.

Spent like an hour leveling and started pvping. Although locks suck at low levels, it was a blast and I was at the top of dmg most of the time. I think I'll continue up until the queues get too long and make another mage, or take my 29 mage up.

saw a few twinks in 10-19 but i made sure they knew who i was lol. looking forward to level 20 since it will be full of ftp and vets games will be fun! filling in empty slots with bg rewards. ran into another boa-er? boaist? who was turning off xp every ten levels to regear with dungeon gear.
i asked at the end of one game why did the team think we lost. more than one said “they had more boas”

Just make a f2p its that simple lol.
Yea...

I mean yall have already established that it doesnt take a pinned down twink to have a good time. And, in fact, twinks largely removed from BGs seem to have improved the experience. So why not just make a f2p? You wont have to keep rerolling toons and you'll have a character you can really build without ever really having to worry about becoming OP

Considering the fact that Blizzard made it clear that the separation is due to a mismatch in Toon Stats/Gear etc I am quite sure it will not be long before they find a solution to the F2P loophole, they are making it clear they don't want the mismatch - luckily this is low priority for them; so it may take a while.

If people feel as though a level 20 with no enchants has the upperhand in a "mismatch" then thats a player problem, not a design problem.

I've found it fun to switch XP Off at lvl 29 right after I ding, gear the toon and then hop in - I't's kinda fun, I've also been playing more end game but all in all it works out fine.

Throwaway toons are fun.

I remember playing them a lot in MoP and maybe some time in cata?

They're fun because you can look toward the next ability/talent you unlock and it shapes how you pvp thereafter, this is what splits it from veteran/f2p toons.

I used to know some key quests horde side that would scoop up some stat gear by level 10 and jump straight into bgs.

Now with bg crates it may even be better for throwaway style toons as you can pick up gear as you battleground. Maybe queue or quests every now and again if you have a few slots of outdated gear.

I don't really want to do any pvp at the moment with naga hide being like it is though - so so so strong & offers no counterplay.
