US Question about going from f2p to vet.

Locking XP doesn't eliminate banked levels, just prevents them from being cashed in and leveling you. If you turn your XP on while you're still subbed, you'll level.

You can lock your XP without a sub, but you can't turn it back on. So if you have banked levels, you need to lock XP before you sub, then put in a ticket to have a GM turn it back on for you after your sub expires.

@Fry did some awesome testing for it here - https://xpoff.com/threads/banked-xp-7-3-5-f2p-only-reuploaded.74864/#post-1113483. Everything I've seen has confirmed that after upgrading my f2p account. I haven't actually forced a character to level yet, but I still had banked levels after getting a GM to turn my XP back on.

If i sub on a f2p account for a race change will my banked xp level me to 30?
Hi Neon
I made an account just to share with you and any others thinking of going F2P --> vet what my experiences have been.
TLDR: Personally, I regretted it.

1. All that accrued XP made my char (the first one I logged in after buying gametime) insta-level from 20 to 30.
I contacted a GM (took about 12 hours) who put my char back to 20 but warned me not to log any other chars in as putting chars back in level was *not* something GMs are happy to do. S/he then cancelled my gametime (I hadn't asked for that, but no complaint as I guess they made a not-unreasonable assumption that I wanted them to), but before that I had time to twink the regressed char a fair bit with the help of kind and charitable strangers since I only had 10 gold :) Unfortunately that char happened to be a class I enjoy PvEing but can't PvP for peanuts on...
The GM advised me that I should turn off XP before subbing next time. (NB - this turned out to be bad/useless advice)

2. As a new vet I was disappointed to find I could no longer do archaeology at all (that was my downtime-between-BGs fun activity on one of my chars).

3. I also couldn't cook thunder lizard tails anymore.

4. I also couldn't use lowbie enchants like +1 agi on wrists or +1 int on staff anymore.

5. I also couldn't get the good feeling of being "pure" F2P anymore, even though I had only logged in 1 char for 1 day while subbed.

I had all the "punishments" of being a vet without the (twinking) pleasures - so I did what anyone would do - I resubbed.

But before I did, I went to see Slahtz and turned off XP as the GM had suggested. I then found I could not queue for BGs - unsubbed players cannot queue for BGs if XP is turned off.

Worse, the game would not allow me to turn XP back on! Slahtz would take my 10 gold, but do nothing (the bastard). I still couldn't queue for BGs.

So, I subbed. Logged in a lvl 20 hunter - boom, straight to lvl 30 but I was expecting it that time. Contacted a GM, asked to be put back and for them to delete all the accrued XP on my other 20s so I could log them in safely. The GM put me through to the GM who had helped me the first time, who put my hunter back to 20 but *very* grudgingly, and wrote me quite a long letter saying they would not do this a 3rd time, and that there was no option to delete accrued XP on other chars.

So... long story short, I had to make a new priest and a new warlock to twink, because I can't safely log the old ones in while subbed. Which is ok but I miss the old ones.

One final note - a side-effect of this debacle was that something has happened to my account which means I no longer collect XP while unsubbed. So, as a vet, the new priest etc stick at "0/45000" (or whatever the number is) XP. Which is good, means I can sub occasionally and safely log in the "new" twinks. But the old ones still have 465000/465000, so they can never be twinked.

And I will never be able to do archaeology or cook lizard tails, which I still regret.

I hope this story helps you and other F2Ps avoid the mistakes I made (or at least make them knowledgeably!)

Best wishes to all.
