Skepticism for Classic WoW(Activision Blizzard)

Im Note worried about sharding more than one, two days. Shared loot and also MOSTLY worried about right click report feature..

Large corporations are constantly hiring and laying off people.
Sad fact of life.

Right click report did not exist in Vanilla. I suppose Blizzard could integrate that though.

That was one of the wonderful things about Vanilla, reporting people really wasn’t necessary. Pretty much everyone cooperated with everyone else. Especially in the early days.

I think it's safe to say I see their plans with Classic are to basically have it run itself with low overhead. With that in mind, this will likely mean little to no development resources. More automation tools. And more virtual environments to deal with server population and movement.

The biggest issues I see being brought up are, and what I see is:

Right-click reporting will be here to stay. This will mean less CM's and less GM's. Clearly the last cut in "non essential" roles do include CM's and will also likely include "eye's on a screen" folks like GM's. I don't think they need to have it, but Blizzard probably wants less tickets.

Sharding. What we know is their plan is to only have this available for a short-while in starting areas. What we don't know is if this is in alignment with what the company actions, rhetoric, and stated values are. They value cost cutting. Sharding is a tool that allows for less physical spaces and more virtualization. Only time will tell on this. But I doubt sharding will just go away after a few weeks.

Loot trading. Again with the company initiatives I don't see resources being granted for GM's to address in game issues regarding loot. However, I don't see this being a problem that can't be solved. Just get rid of loot trading altogether and tell players if you mess up on trading raid loot or if someone ninja rolls something ... tough you know what.

Sharding bothers me in a couple of ways. First I think the chaotic nature of THE MASS LEVELLING ZERG is part of the magic, sure its a pain in the ass but zone chat will be pumping and thats the vanilla experience, secondly it demonstrates a willingness on blizzards behalf to make core changes to the vanilla experience and at the moment blizzard seems in a dramatic downward spiral in terms of being on the same wavelength with the wider player base whether its content, game mechanics or system implementation. So phasing induces a fear in me that the next change they make to the vanilla experience whatever the fuck it is, will just fuck vanilla up. If they dont think players can hack a few days of highly populated questing areas and for 'convenience' provide a solution to it then what other 'convenience' changes are in the future?

Im already pissed about the patch vanilla is launching with which ruins the whole early vanilla experience imo

My point is our dad is still making the decisions but now he has fkn Alzheimer's and cant even remember our names

Just gonna throw it out there

You should go ahead and shelve any expectations you have about getting the vanilla "experience" because a good deal of that experience was created by the new-ness of the game. There was a shared excitement of exploration and discovery. There wasn't an established content release pattern that people could predict and play off of.

All that is gone now. The player base has changed remarkably. We know the content, we know the game, we know how it all works and we've known it for a decade or more.

It's not going to feel the same. At all. Regardless of how blizzard approaches it, it's going to be vastly different from how you remember it.

And mostly, I think that's a good thing. The content was great. But they're never going to recapture the magic and they'd be foolish to try. Just as foolish as you would be to expect it.

I agree. But it's hard to escape their we know better mentality. If they could just let it be it's own thing "warts and all".

I’m praying they remove the right click report feature, if that’s in the game and a bracket leader gets banned, the whole premade will fall apart. And it’s likely this will happen a lot...
you can get multiple people to initiate an automated boot, this results in an actual person reviewing the incident at a later date, if that person decides the boot was not warranted, those that false reported are giving diminished reporting power.

Say it takes 5* player reports, someone with false reports on their account only count as a percentage* of a vote(*values never mentioned by Blizz) or dont count at all if they have multiple false reports.

This is how it currently works. According to blue posts on the forums

I understand what you mean, but old content was 10x better then anything that followed Cataclysm. I will give the client a shot for 2 month after official launch if i don't like it i will go back to playing Light's Hope & Netherwing TBC.

This is so true. Disrespecting community could kill your reputation. All server had the ability to 'ignore' you. Crossrealms created toxic people and trolls.

A player’s reputation on your server was practically everything in Vanilla. That really was an integral part of the game. Many people that play now just can’t grasp the reality of that.
My raiding guild in Vanilla and BC and even WotLK had pretty strict requirements on how you conducted yourself. You were representing the guild when the guild tag attached to your character’s name.

One of the great benefits of the pre cross realm, closed server wow experience was SERVER FORUMS , super active with oh so much delicious drama, rivalries, accusations flexes qq threads...Has there been any info about the forums coming back with classic? I assume they will?
