Gear Changes?

Hi everyone! I haven't played WoW in a few months and am wondering what gear changes I need to make on my f2p 20 hunter for Bfa. I heard that stats and enchants matter now rather than ilvl which is throwing me for a loop considering I don't have much knowledge outside of lvl 20 in legion. So any info is appreciated! Here is my current gear setup.

Looks decent to me. I'd work on getting gear with versatility to replace the pieces you have. I'm not sure if crit or haste is better for MM, but versatility seems to be the best secondary for all classes right meow.

in low lvl pvp its allways crit
vers comes second
haste is a joke
Without really trying, a fury warrior can shave a full second off Bloodthirsts CD, bringing it below the 4 second Enrage buff timer, dramatically increasing Enrage up time. Given that this buff is essential to success as a fury warrior, I'd say dismissing haste as a joke is pretty myopic

(Obviously this doesn't apply to hunters but I'm certain hunters have a similar situation re: buffs and CDs)

So I should change all my BG crate items to have crit/vers instead of crit/haste? And what gun/bow should I use? Or is the heirloom weapon the best option?

The BG crate weapon is going to be the best (make sure you aren't set to survival or you'll get the staff). Heirlooms can get high level scopes, but obviously not for F2P. The heirloom weapons are fine until you get the BG crate weapon.

Generally MM hunters like verse > crit > haste. At 19, a lot of hunters go with pure agility options where available. Not sure you would want to do this at 20 F2P with a lack of enchants.

op was asking for hunter not furry am i right?
on 20 bracket dps classes mostly gearing haste for elemental force procs.
if u dont have access to it, forget about this stat.

I certainly hope he wasn't asking about furries. If so I completely misread his question ;)

My point is merely that haste isn't a trash stat, even for hunters. I think you’re underestimating the effect of reduced CDs. Like for BM for instance, cobra shot reduces kill command CD. If you seek out haste, you reduce the CD on kill command and increase focus regeneration which speeds up cobra shot. Which further reduces the CD on kill command. It’s a win/win especially if you’re using the dual pet talent.

This isn’t to say crit isn’t worthwhile. It absolutely is. Hunters can and should stack a solid amount of it. But pretending like haste can be avoided without consequence is just silly. It’s a great stat for most classes.

yeah in pve it is really good for dps, but we talk about pvp where burst dmg and cc taking their places.

crit basically converted into haste, but u still have access to relatively often 500-700dmg kc bursts.

u have an access to limited amount of secondary stats, especially if ur going full f2p
u allways want 20-25% critchance and in terms of secondary stats thats pretty much it for f2p

This is... a very simplified way of approaching PvP dps. Melee classes, perhaps, value crit more than ranged classes given that kiting and CC reduce their uptime on their target. They have a window in which to do damage and blowing CDs with high crit lends itself well to burst.

Ranged classes have a much easier time dealing sustained damage, especially something like a hunter who, if theyre BM, relies on instant shots and massive pet damage or, if theyre MM, has cast-while-moving abilities. Haste plays a bigger role in their damage because they have a bigger window in which to do that damage.

Yes, but its a small return. If 25% of your auto attacks crit, but only 20% of those reset the cooldown, thats only a 5% chance.

This actually fits into my argument. There's only so much gear with secondary stats out there.

Ive got a hunter thats geared very haphazardly but still has 23% crit, 13% haste and 7% vers. Lets say I want to push that crit higher because some guy on the internet pithily told me crit was all that mattered. To push that crit higher, even to just 25%, i'd have to sacrifice an enormous amount of haste and vers, because the higher crit gear doesnt come with enough stat allocation for other secondary stats. Losing half my haste and vers to get another 2-3 points of crit would lower my damage output, even in a pvp scenario.

Crit is undeniably the best. But not at the expense of haste or vers. Those two are also essential stats

Alright im good with gear, thanks for the stat clarifications! Can f2ps do the Arena Grand Master quest for the trinket? And what is the best pet type now? Leech seems pretty cool.

arena gm now req lvl 30, that means f2p can no longer start the quest - u will need h8 lvl toon for this
for pets go to petopia and look for:
no pet/cat for mm
for others ferocity or tenacity with mortal wounds or slow depends on what u need more

To elaborate on the pets...

Pets fall into 3 categories, which each give a respective buff. Or no pet.
  • Cunning - 8% movespeed
  • Ferocity - 10% leech
  • Tenacity - 5% HP and an active that reduces dmg to you and your pet by 20% for 6 seconds
  • Lone Wolf (no pet) - 10% damage increase
Typically, Lone Wolf is going to provide the best damage for marksman. It isn't an option for BM/Survival. That being said, you'll still want a cunning pet on you to summon when moving around in BGs (coming back from GY, moving to an objective, running the flag). A tenacity pet is also a good option if you end up holding the flag. Ferocity can be ok if you constantly have it out while fighting for some health regen, but usually the damage is too much for it to really matter IMO.

Beyond that, there are 6 abilities that pets can have. Defense, Dodge, and Triggered Defense focus on your pet's survival - which are mostly only useful PVE. Theres a Tranquilize/dispel that you don't get until higher level, so we can ignore that. Which leaves us with Mortal Wounds (anti-healing debuff) and Slow.

A super helpful chart showing each pet type and the respective family and ability can be found here: http://wow-petopia.com/abilities.php

IIRC, hunters only have 2 stable slots at 20. So you want one mortal wounds and one slow. At least one of those should be cunning. The other can be tenacity if you expect to hold the flag, or also cunning because movespeed is just too good.

So I'd choose 2 of...
  • Cunning w/ Mortal Wounds - hyena, raptor
  • Cunning w/ Slow - Basilisk, Birds of Prey (owl, eagle, parrot, etc), Dogs
  • Tenacity w/ Slow - Crab

You could also play around with ferocity, though I think its better for BM/survival.

The only Basilisks I could tame with lvl20, the Greystone Basilisks didn't have Petrifying Gaze, looks like they are bugged or I was very unlucky running around for 20 minutes Beast Loring them

Dont listen to these nabs...

You need a pet from "Mortal Wounds" family.
(Grievously wound the target, reducing the effectiveness of any healing received for 10 sec.) Your target in BGs get 25% less heal.
Thats very usefull to kill healers and everything else , cuz the healers will heal it. With this pet you are in killing spree.

Hydra is the best pet cuz of this -> https://www.wowhead.com/spell=264735/survival-of-the-fittest

PS: You are a huntard.... you have "Concussive Shot", why the hell you need 8% speed or pet with slowing ability? Con.Shot is enough for me to kill my enemy before he reach me + the jumping back ability.
