EU+US Veteran's Legion Gear Prep Guide

Original

100% GCD Hacker
Thanks to the help of @Kirise , this is the veteran 20 guide.
Note: A lot of the bis gear is now Warforged legion invasion gear. This gear has a 20-30% drop chance and another 20-30% chance to give +10ilvl.

The arrival of the Legion prepatch brought significant changes to optimizing gear for XP-off players. Here's what you need to know for playing in instanced PvP (arenas and battlegrounds, not world PvP). Please let me know if this guide needs any corrections/additions/deletions.
  • All characters in instanced PvP will receive stats based on a stats template predetermined by Blizzard, based on class and spec. Stats and enchantments on gear will no longer matter. Trinkets and weapon/gear procs will no longer work.
  • Characters continue to temporarily boost to 29. All item levels on gear below level 25 other than heirlooms no longer scale to 25.
  • For every average item level you achieve above 25, you will receive a 0.1% bonus to all of your stats e.g. if you get your average item level to 45, you will receive a 2% bonus to your stats.
  • Characters can now use their best armor types i.e. shamans and hunters can wear mail, and warriors and paladins can wear plate. Likewise, all characters now receive around a 5% boost to stats for wearing their native armor type.
The following list covers what we know (so far) as BiS items. Any slot stating "strongbox" means that the gear comes from blue drops out of battleground rewards (ilvl 28), gained from winning a random battleground. This list excludes grandfathered gear.

BiS gear is the same within each armor type; weapon and offhand differences are separated by class within each armor type. Please see @StS Ralso 's great weapon guide for more details about weapons and offhands.

Thanks @Redgreenblur and @SikTh for posting about the engineering items, @Kryptonite for confirming the gear sold by Griftah, @raziel83 and @Holythane for the Stratholme Lily info, @AlisterCrow for the heads up on the STV trinket @Purj and @Trice for the info about rare gear from battleground strongboxes, and special thanks to @Amelletta for the information on warforged invasion gear.

I would argue both prot paladins as well as holy paladins should be using the SFK class quest weapon mace, it's speed is 3:30. I think the crate one is just too fast for holy. You're losing damage for a minor stat increase. If you plan to do any DPS as a holy paladin I would seriously consider other weapons.

The damage bonus far outweighs the minor stat bonus imo.

Good catch.

Awesome guide, it's cool that you're updating it. Though I hate this warforged gear, 5 warforged out of 14 and 0 boosted ilvl grrr

Well written and informative guide.

8.7/10 for substance.

0/10 for information regarding endgame boosts and botting.

I must agree.

Is there any reason why Goblin Mining Hat wouldn't also be BiS for plate users? Or why Lucky Fishing Hat isn't considered Better than the ilvl 25 helms? I also think items like Net-o-Matic might be worthy of placement, though they are not strictly BiS.

*I did not see the 5% bonus to using your best armor type.

Goblin Mining Hat is mail, not plate. Items that are not your appropriate armor type will not count towards calculation (at least for me it didn't) E.G. I have Tuxedo Pants on both my Rogue and Priest, but lose stats on my rogue for wearing it (You should have about 5.7k HP with all slots properly in instanced PVP, if you are below that, you have lost stats. Net/Gnomish Death Ray are good if you do not have AGM or Hook. The stats gained from ilvl are nearly negligible, and do not outweigh wearing things that are not your appropriate armor type. Despite how long this info has been known, I still see people wearing Mist-Piercing Goggles sitting at 5k hp, FailFish.

I see, Thanks. So Lucky Fishing Hat would only be a decent choice for Cloth-Wearers? I've also noticed that switching trinkets between Haste and Stamina ones don't actually change my stats at all. Are trinket stats not factored in BGs? Similar with switching between ilvl 25 heirlooms and legion gear. Nothing changes.

You get a pre-loaded stat sheet in instanced pvp. Trinkets dont give stats, but still factor into stat calculation. LFH is a good choice for F2P cloth wearers, yes. Heirloom gear and Legion gear are the same ilvl (assuming the Legion gear isn't Warforged or Titanforged), so there are no stat differences.

*****BREAKING NEWS******

I have three level 29 disc priests one has ilevel 38 one has ilevel45 one has ilevel 50

the difference between the 3?

3 points of spellpower, 0.18% crit and 92 health.

#truestory

But keep obsessing on gear, because you will anyway. In your sleep. Forever.

There are two ilvl25 wands for casters available from a vendor in SW/Org. One of them is called dusk wand. I forgot the other one. Charred razormane wand shouldn't be on the list. There is also ilvl 30 warforged invasion gear, but I doubt anyone cares whether that's listed or not.
