I did not realize you could actually get the second or more legendary item before having researched it. I just held on to about 30 days worth of WQ boxes and opened them after I researched it in one of my accounts. I suppose if you read the syntax of the research "Increase the number of Legendary items you can equip by 1". It does not state anything about having more than more.
