i did 3 normal digsites and got 2 750 ap 1 300 and 2 115. guess i was just really lucky

Yes you were.
I leveld from 1 to 300 on my dh and got ~1500ap and from 1-100 on my mage and got 115ap.

FYI: always keep an eye out on other players surveying too. If they spawn an elite, everyone can attack and loot it. If a normal mob spawns, only the one who attacks first gets the loot.

Got about 200ap in an hour or so! Though my archaeology was level 1.......

Seems it's different for everyone then. Both times I got an Elite Digsite (after clearing 5 normal ones each time) it was in the Ettin area of Highmountain and all the enemies were scaled to 99 and absurdly easy on my 99 DH.Did some silver, got 115AP so far.
1st golden at highmountain burial ground. As a caster i die like a little bi**h. Gave up for now. (Waiting for a world quest to be in that area and then server hop til i find one where all mobs are dead.
Hopping back on my dh and start digging with her.

Did the same. Was really annoying and took way too long.
It is. I can see that when switching from my mage to demon hunter. Even the first sites of the day are different. So grouping up to kill the elite for more loot is working but not really good. Cause most likely not all in a group have the same dig site. And then they just have to stand there and hope for an elite proc by one of the others.

RNG.
Finally finished my first grind on the demon hunter. Got my artifact weapon from 1 to 13. And my havoc from just 13 to almost 14.
So around 10k ap. Archaeology skill went up from 1 to 469 with 44 restored artifacts.
Those burial grounds, had to do it 3 times on my dh. -.-

Found I struggle as a caster too, but my mages ice shield can take 400k damage before it breaks and it doesn't break the digging cycle so I just keep running around haha.Did some silver, got 115AP so far.

Another FYI: If you have a pain in the ass dig site up like burial ground, ignore it. Another golden one still spawns after doing some silver. Just happened on my mage.

I've only had 1 epic spawn so far and the fight lasted a whole 30 seconds

Yeah, the elite spawns seem really rare so far. I think I've spawned 3 total, and killed 2 from others. The AP isn't bad or great, it's just inconsistent. 1Hr and hardly anything, then BAM, 1500ap in 20mins. Also, be careful around the dragon dig site... the one with all the 110 Ice elementals.
