EU+US Affli vs Destro?

Hi,

I'm fairly new to warlocks in this bracket and was wondering if anyone could give me an overview, pros/cons etc between going destruction and affliction?

I tried destro but I am only doing 1.2k crits with chaos bolt and this spec doesn't really keep me interested. Whereas affliction seems to be more fun, especially with the drain talent. However, I doubt I can kill a decent healer with affli having no silences. Maybe for that purpose I should choose haunt? Or maybe destro is the way?

What about world pvp - which is better?

Any random tips for a lock would also be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Im playing lock atm and affliction is hands down better then dest....... the new talent is the real deal and can push out enough damage to pressure even a geared disc 1v1

Afflict is better all around but i think Destro is better for "kill targets"

I guess in a insta burst lets all switch to xxx blow up style "kill targets" but i think affliction can pressure healers by itself more with multiple Ua's , 2 other dots all 70% buff while draining with fear

Im super new to warlock though

Good healers would be in the backline and untouchable by dps.

From a pure BG viewpoint, I think Afflic is pretty decent - can do some pretty decent spread damage and that's exceptionally helpful from a team standpoint. I've noticed however, if you're anticipating soloing healers etc, then afflict is honestly pretty shocking. You dots do very minimal damage when going for kills, and stacking the AU into malefic grasp is pretty decent damage but easily outhealable. Your rogue dots on other targets will help overall, but don't tick for huge amounts.

In Arenas, vs competent teams, I would say destroy is far better. You incinerate does just as much damage as your dots would on 2 targets and then you can try for a larger burst for those timed kill attacks. Obviously, destroy lacks survivability in the sense that afflict heals with their burst, whereas destro has to sacrifice any damage for heals when they wish to heal up a bit. (I'm not talking about 3v3 because afflict would be a lot better in these circumstances if team with, example, a warrior who can do some pretty heavy deeps with your multi-targeted dots).

Overall, both are fun specs and both are fun to play. Just depends on the circumstances and what you overall enjoy playing.

In terms of world pvp, afflict is actually pretty sick, but then again destro can be too! If you're duelling, it depends entirely on what you're vs. E.g. I think afflict is SO much better vs healers (with drain spec) but vs things like warriors and rogues, when time is really not on your side, it could be more beneficial to go destro. Then again, you could just spec into haunt as it's a really fast cast time, too.

Can you not say the same for any caster? Also its a bit like saying 'stay out of melee range' as a counter to a warrior

affli has instant dots, boomie has instant dots, sp has dots and flay, frost mage has ray of frost, nobody plays ele and arcane mage has a potential arcane missles

arcane and destro are the only ones you can potentially keep LoSing and be 100% fine

Okay yes you can los destro, but that doesn't make it that much worse of a spec for arena.

I called it destro like 3 or 4 times and "accidentally" called it destroy ONCE. I think it was easy to see it was a typo.

What is LOS'ing? :D
Line of sight, meaning you stand behind a wall or obstacle to interrupt the caster's spell casting, preventing any damage or effect dealt to you.

Does that completely work tho? I mean, I can cast through some obstacles and some refrain me from doing so. Like boulders/hills etc in wsg - I can cast while the target is behind those, but obviously walls etc don't allow that
